We're hosting a party for our 4 year old at an arts and crafts place. Goody bags are such the norm, but often filled with junk. Any creative and relatively inexpensive ideas for goody bags (or a "take home prize") for a dozen 3 and 4 year olds??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the great ideas! We decided to hand out white lunch bags so that the kids could decorate their own goody bags, and then I inserted a Tootsie Pop, temporary tattoos and a set of watercolors in each for them to take home. The suckers and tattoos cost a total of about $6 and each set of watercolors were $1.

I usually buy some games (board games) or cards.. or in the summer - beach toys from the dollar store. Currently Target has a lot of games for just $4.. but its only for a couple of days.. so check it out quick. Makes for some good favors. Other things you could do is toothbrush/toothpaste kits or bath stuff.. like bath colors or bubble bath.

Good luck,
Aarti.

Have the kids decorate their own bags (buy the "large" size brown paper lunch bags at the grocery store.)

For goodies, consumables are also nice - fruit snacks, small bags of crackers. Temporary tattoos and stickers. Pencils.

Recently my son got a self-inking stamp in a goodie bag, and he loves it! He's always stamping himself and his art projects. Definitely a winning gift bag item. Super balls are also coveted (the larger size for that age group.)

In place of goodie bags, I give a large cookie that goes with the theme of the party. It also happens to be my business. =)
If not the one spot at Target or dollar tree has some great stuff that is non-edible. I have also seen Arch cards given out. I know that the mom who did said by the time she bought all the stuff for the bags it would have been $5 per child, so she just bought each one an arch card from McDonalds. It was enought to get a kids meal and a treat one day after school! Just some thoughts...hope it helps. Not sure how much you want to spend, but we bought each child a "big boy/girl" cup and put some stickers inside. It was fairly inexpensive ($3 a child) and something we hoped they use instead of "junk" like you said that they wouldn't even keep/use. The kids seemed happy enough with them.

I make homemade cupcake soap or soap popsicles. They are adorable. $3-$4 per person. They are unique and different from the traditional goodie bags. Please feel free to email me if interested.

Thanks!

crayons/coloring book, a book (dollar bin at Target has these), picture frame with pic of child and birthday girl at the party (cute frames at the dollar tree), puzzle

I agree with you..goody bags are filled with junk. I'm sure these are cheaper and the kids will like it more...so will the parents!

Since you are having it at a crafts place, how about putting in little coloring things, etc. Michael's crafts store has a great selection of $1 items such as little stickers, coloring boards, etc. I think Joanne's has something similar. For boys, you could put in something with cars and for girls, the princess route always works. or animals for either. You could also put in beads for girls to make a necklace. Also check out the craft stuff at Oriental Trading company. They have great kits at a reasonal price. I plan to do something like this for my kids 10th in March.
