Is it ok to cut the grass while pregnant- with a riding lawn mower. Also, I am having a lot of issues with leakage in the breasts. Is this normal? I know you can purchase breast pads for during the day but I do not want to wear a bra at night--what do you do about this. Is there something out there for that? Is this normal? Please let me know.
Thanks
T.

I don't know any reason why you can't cut grass while pregnant - on a riding lawn mower or any other kind. As far as leaky breasts, that is perfectly normal and is generally to be expected especially at first. I did find something that works well for nighttime though because wearing bras to bed is uncomfortable. Target sells maternity tank tops that are very comfortable to sleep in and make it easy for those middle of the night feedings. You can put breast pads inside the tank top to help keep your sheets clean. You can find them at Target in the same section as their nursing bras. Other places may carry them as well. Hope this helps!!

Yes, leaking is normal for some people (me included). I just put a towel or cloth diaper on the bed so that if I leaked it wouldn't get to the mattress. You can slip it under the sheet if you don't like the feel of the towel on your skin, but that means you're doing lots of sheet laundry. And the leaking will continue for months after you have your baby, so you might as well figure out a comfortable way to sleep with it now. Good luck! Its a tough first few months, but it is worth it and definitely gets better!

I am not to sure about the cutting grass, But I wanted to let you know that there is a company called One Step Ahead that sells Silicone Breast pads (called Lily Pads) that stick to your skin and prevent your breasts from leaking. I have them and they work great for me, I had a baby 7 weeks ago.

No clue about the grass cutting...i mean i have heard things on the vibrating not being too good. I know you cant ride a bike...
As far as leaking breast...totally normal. Annoying as hell but normal. They leak before, during, and after the breastfeeding experience. But be careful..I did stain. I always had to have pads in and constantly had to change them... Good luck and congratulations:)

Hi T.,

It is totally o.k. to mow the grass while you're pregnant. I did with my pregnancy with a walk-behind mower. Just remember to take alot of breaks to drink water and get out of the sun a bit to cool off. When you feel too hot, get out of the sun and into the cool. Go slow so that you don't overheat. (I was also due End of Nov. Thanksgiving day.)

It is totally normal to leak a little when you're near the end of your term, but this early...I'm not sure of. You might wanna call your Doc on that one. I never leaked before delivery, but I had friends who did. At night, you could try a sports bra, or something a little more comfortable, but you could still put pads in it. When I nursed, at night I wore a really soft fabric bra with almost no support so it was very comfortable, different than my normal nursing bras. Good luck.

Someone may have already mentioned this product, but just in case . . . I used LilyPadz when I was nursing. They are a silicone pad that conforms and "sticks" to your breast. They don't absorb leakage, they prevent it (for the most part). You can use them without a bra. You can get them at Motherhood Maternity stores and at boutique baby stores like Pacifier, Pea Pods, or Baby Grand for about $20 - $25. I couldn't stand wet nursing pads against my breasts, so I LOVED them. I have friends who hated them, though, so I guess it's just a personal preference.

Yes it is totally safe to cut the grass. Breasts will leak all the way up to birth that is noraml. My breats leaked for a year after I stopped nursing my first child. There is nothing that you can do to stop it. The milk or discharge won't stain so if you don't want to wear a bra don't. Good luck!! A.

There's nothing that says you can't use a push mower but the vibrations aren't good on a riding. I stayed away from mowing because frankly I didn't want to inhale all of that exhaust!!! I didn't need it in my system and my growing baby sure didn't need it in hers.

I hate to tell you this, but unless you want to wake up with crusty milk on you and your bedsheets you are going to have to wear a bra to bed. Go get a sports bra, or a womans tank with a built in bra and wear that to bed, they will hold pads in place, and they aren't as constricting as a regular bra. Once your breasts hold more milk it is actually going to feel BETTER for you to wear a supportive bra to bed.

Congratulations on your baby and good luck!!!

I don't know about the grass cutting, but have experience the leaking breasts! Expecially right after both my kids were born I was REALLY engorged and had to wear pads 24/7. (I think I should've bought stock in them!) At night I wore the cami's with the built in bra's in them. They worked pretty well, and were less restricting than wearing a bra. The only downside...since your sleeping on your side since your pregnant the pads sometimes tend to shift and you still may have some leakage onto clothes (although if you are smaller busted you may not have this problem). My sister-in-law just had a baby and told me about a great product she is using. It is called a "lillypad" (I think, or something like that). From what she explained, it is plastic and sticks to you to stop leakage, and protruding nipples. It is washable and reusable so you dont have to spend a fortune on breast pads. She said their great...unfortunately I am already 6 months into breastfeeding my 2nd child so don't have much leakage problems (since I'm a Stay-at-home mom I can change if I do have a little leakage). She said she got them at the Motherhood Maternity store (at MOA), and they were about $20-$25 (which seems like a lot now, but not if you start adding up the number of breast pad boxes you go through).

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I mowed with a push mower but I am not sure about a riding. Check with your doctor on that.
As for leaking, very normal. i hated wearing a bra to bed too i just took a hand towel folded up and slept on top of that. When it got really bad I took a waterproof lap pad (you can find them in the baby section near the waterproof matress pads) and put that under my sheets to keep the matress from getting soaked with breast milk.
Congratulations and good luck!

Hi, T.!

My husband and I were in the process of moving from Michigan to Wisconsin when I was pregnant with my first. He had to be out there, but we had not officially moved. Our house in Michigan was for sale and had to be well-maintained. I cut the grass consistently throughout my pregnancy. I used a push mower on about 1/2 acre lot. It also had a nice size hill in the back, too. I was fine. I would say your biggest concern would be how you feel. If you feel OK, as I imagine you would on a riding mower, you should be fine. Just be careful not to tip the mower...

T., I have 2 little ones, and I cut grass on a riding lawn mower with my second (I cant remember if I did with my first!) My doctor said it was ok for me to do it, but, I went into premature labor, and I really believe that cutting the grass---along with many other overly active things I did, had something to do with it. We have a 3 acre yard, so this was about 3hours of riding on the mower. In my humble opinion it was the constant vibration.
As for the breasts, I only had a little bit after my daughter was born, and it only lasted the first few months.
Good Luck!
M.

I loved Bravado bras during pregnancy and nursing. I eventually had to wear one at night to be comfortable, even when I was pregnant! They're really comfortable.

You might as well start wearing a bra with nursing pads or at least the pads stuck in the shirt, cause you will have to do that when you start nursing. They don't just shut off at night.
