Great Family Looking for a Dog

Hi All,

This request is for my nanny. She and her famiy purchased a pure bread German Shepard puppy last summer. They do not have a lot of money and saved forever to buy him. By Thanksgiving he was seriously ill with many many complications. He was so ill wih seizures he lost his sight among many other problems. They tried everything to maintain his quality of life but the hits kept coming and finally they did what was in his best interest and put him down. I personally called the breeder several times and he never returned my calls. I'm guessing the pups were sick and he didn't want to face the music. 5 months later their kids still talk about "Toby" all the time. MY daughter talks about Toby all the time...he was her first lesson in "heaven" - he was a very special dog who everyone loved and we all miss him.

So, I'm throwing this post out there in case anyone knows of a Shepard puppy or Shepard mix puppy that is available either personally or through a shelter. I've been looking but haven't found another "Toby" yet.

In addition, our family plans to adopt another dog this summer. We have a large yellow lab who is 5 and gets along fabulously with our kids and other dogs. He is needing a companion since we have less time for him being so busy with two small kids. We dog sit for friends quite often and feel bad every time the friend's dog goes home b/c Norman gets depressed. We are not necessarily looking for a puppy or a specific breed - I would consider a dog up to Norman's age (5) depending on the compatibility with our family.

I hope you're all enjoying the warm weather.

N.

I'm not sure what your location is but the Anti-Cruelty Society downtown is the best and they ALWAY have Shepard mix dogs! We adopted both of our dogs there are they've turned out great. It only costs $55 and you get the dog, of course, their first round of shots, collar, leash, and 14days of free vet care. It's such a great place and they have a training school as well if you want to do obedience school. You get a discount on the classes too! I highly recommend adopting there! It's great!!!!

Best of luck, and blessings to you, and the dogs that come into your life. I am happy to hear angels out there looking to care for the many animals that have become lost and rejected. Sadly, the breeding industry is not so ethical and that's why we see these health problems, seizures is a sign of too much pure breeding. Just wanted to say I am happy to hear some dogs will be well taken care of!

There are TONS of great dogs on www.petfinder.com. There are rescues and shelters listed there- just type in the type of dog you are looking for, and your zip and it will bring up all the dogs in the area that match your search! It's a great idea to rescue rather than buy one from a breeder. Oprah did a great show on Puppy Mills on Friday exposing all the dogs go through when they are overbred.

Hope that helps!

We are looking for a home for our 2 year old Male Wheaten Terrier. We love him and he gets along great with our 17 month old son. The problem is that we have a older female Wheaten Terrier who is not as fond of him! He is a very playful dog and has gotten along with other dogs.
If you are interested in giving Beemer a try or know of anybody who may may interested please let us know.

Please check out Almost Home Foundation based out of Elk Grove Village. They also do pet showings and adoptions at some PetSmart locations in Bloomingdale and Schaumburg. This is a fantastic foundation that rescues dogs and finds great homes for them. We have adopted through them and so have others that I know and have never had a problem. I would highly recommend them to anyone. If you would like their phone number please contact me.
Thanks and home this helps.
