Great Hikes to Do with Babies?

We actually just went for a nice little hike yesterday at Red Rock Canyon. It's near Highway 84 and 31st street towards Manitou. Nice vistas and there are three levels of trails depending on what you feel like doing and the trails are well maintained. While there we saw an Elk mama and her two babies as well as a coyote! It was astounding!

We also went to Barnes and Noble and picked up a book called "Best Easy Day Hikes - Colorado Springs" for $6 which has trails in the nearby plains and mountains.

Not sure where you live, but if in Utah try Dog Lake - up Millcreek Canyon is a great and beautiful hike with a kid strapped to you, not to difficult. Make sure to have your baby bundled, mine had his legs freezing.
If the road gate is closed and you can't make it to Dog Lake right now, try Mt. Aire it is a good one also. A little more challenging with a kid on your back and the quick elevation gain, but I've seen it done.

Fun! I love to hike and I love it when I can bring the kids too, though mine are getting too big to carry comfortably anymore!

Garden of the Gods is always a very pretty and easy hike with gorgeous views. Palmer Park is great as well - you're in the middle of the city but you wouldn't know it while you're hiking! Another great place is North Cheyenne Canon. They have several different hikes that can be taken and the views are beautiful. B., I'm not sure what area you live in, but we've gone hiking at "Devil's Head" It is the coolest place ever! It's not a hard hike, we took our two kids and they walked the entire thing (my youngest was 4) but we saw plenty of people with babies and toddlers. They have a fire station that you have to climb, so if you're afraid of heights, you may want to stay at the bottom. It is such a beautiful place. We even saw trees completely covered with lady bugs.

I agree with other posters about Roxborough Park, Three Sisters, and Castlewood Canyon. In addition, you can try Deer Creek Canyon park near the Ken Caryl area, which is a bit more challenging but worth it. Devil's Head is also great. In Evergreen, there is also Elk Meadow Park, I would recommend the Painters Pause loop. Also Golden Gate Canyon State Park, and the Boulder Flatirons area are both beautiful.

If Boulder is appealing, go to the boulder county open space and mountain parks website to check trails. Mountain views are best from the plains or from other mountain tops!!
An easy hike is Green Mountain, way up flagstaff road (in Boulder, up behind Chautauqua park) You have to park on the side of the road to do the shorter hike, or down below is the last parking area,and the hike is down the canyon a bit and then back up to the top. Eldorado State park has a few good trails and you can watch the climbers on the way in.(RATTLE SNAKE TRAIL has a divide overlook) Golden Canyon State park has some divide overlooks by trail heads, too. Just about any hike here is good, when you are from out-of-town!

If you aren't into the group thing, you can at least find some great areas to hike on your own. They are rated by difficulty level and age range too.

Check out Roxborough state park. It is beautiful red rock hikes. You can also go over and have lunch at the golf course resturant. It is a BEAUTIFUL secret of the denver area. Also there are several hikes just up 285. good luck...

Helen Hunt Falls....You will have to look up on the internet but they have wonderful...easier hikes and wonderful views from the top :) Driving distance for sure.

This time of year for hiking you'll want to stay on the front range. Any of the Denver mountain parks are nice: Mt Falcon, Alderferer/Three sister park, Green Mountain, etc. the other nice one is down in Castelwood: Castlewood Canyon State Park, there's a great loop trail that goes around the trail and near the old dam.

If you have snowshoes then Brainard, Hessie townsite and 4th of July train near Eldora are really nice and avoid the I-70 traffic.
