My daughter loves nature and I am looking for some fun summer camps that would be outdoorsy-oriented. Any recommendations? We would prefer to stay in the SW Portland area, but can drive further if the camp is a good one.

We loved all your responses- thank you so much! We found a great series of camps at Tigard Playschool with weekly themes like creepy crawlies, beach, space and camping. We can't wait for our daughter to try them all out! We are also checking into the Audubon Society. thanks for all the great tips!!!

I help run the not for profit program "Adventure on the River". It's a fairly new program but a great opportunity for 14-15 year olds to learn how to sail and power boat. It's a 4 day program with an overnight camping trip on the Columbia River. Check us out at www.adventureontheriver.com. You can also view pictures on our Facebook page (just search for Adventure on the River).

Gabrial Park at the SWCC on Vermont has lots of camps for children. Full day and half day options. I had my son go when he was young and he really liked them. You can pick up info at the SW community center.

Check out the Audobon Society. They have camps for kids entering first grade and up.

trackers NW (in Oaks Bottom)offers fantastic outdoor camps - I would highly recommed them. I havev also heard that Clouds Hill Farm camps (in SW) are amazing.

There is a great program at Tryon State Park, which is right in the city, near Lewis & Clark College. They have day camp, as well as weekend activities for kids. Here is a link to thier website:
