Hi, Moms! I know the best option for cleaning glass is vinegar and newspaper. The problem is that I can't stand the smell of vinegar - it makes me gag. The idea of spending an hour using it to clean all our windows is too much for me. I bought the new GreenWorks Windex with high hopes, but it's terrible! It's really streaky and foggy. I cleaned the same mirror three times, and after a lot of elbow grease, got most of the streaks out and fog off. Unfortunately, while not opposed to hard work, I don't really have time to spend that much effort on each window and mirror in our house. I know I can go back to regular Windex, but I'd like to continue our gradual shift to green products. We moved about a month ago and are having a housewarming party this Saturday, so I need it quickly - looking for a product I can buy in the store, not online or through a home party consultant. Thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions! I went ahead and bought the Method one due to the time crunch I'm under - I hadn't before because it just is an all-surface cleaner, so I didn't think it would do well on glass. But I'm definitely going to try the others that were posted and test them all out. Thanks!

I use the "Method" brand. In my opinion, that brand is not as "green" as I would like but it is better than most and like you said, without the time and energy to put into it, it works.

Homemade glass cleaner
* Borax or Washing Soda. Two tablespoons of borax or washing soda mixed into 3 cups water makes a good window cleaner. Apply to surface and wipe dry.
* Cornstarch and Vinegar. Mix 3 tablespoons cornstarch and ½ cup white vinegar into 1 gallon warm water. Apply to surface and wipe dry.
* Lemon Juice. Mix 1 tablespoon lemon juice in 1 quart water. Apply to surface and wipe dry.
* Baking Soda. To clean cut glass, sprinkle baking soda on a damp rag and clean glass. Rinse with clean water and polish with a soft cloth.
* Dishwashing Detergent. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid in a bucket of warm water. Wash windows with a soft cloth – use a clean sponge mop or a rag over a long handled broom for hard to reach places. Rinse with a hose or use another “rinse rag”. Dry with newspapers or a soft, lint free cloth. PRESTO!
Rubbing Alcohol is a great cleaner
The best window cleaner I have used ... soap and water! Put a drop of dishwashing soap into a spray bottle - fill with warm water - get 2 old burp clothes. Spray the window - wipe with one burp cloth to get most of the water and then use the second burp cloth to get the rest of the water and to get rid of the streaks. I just sat and looked at my windows in "ahh" after I cleaned them like this! It's the little things that make me happy!
