My 3 year old GRINDS HIS TEETH in his sleep. THIS DRIVES IN NUTS & I dont know what to do to stop him from doing this, if there is anything. I know it's doing damage, it has to be. I kinda nudge him & then he stops, but after awhile he starts right back up. Is there anything I can do to help him????

What can I do next?

Get him to a chiropractor who does cranial adjustments- something is out of alignment, usually easily fixed- check the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. best of luck, Kia

I was told that grinding teeth can be healthy to strighten then as they come in and settle. Remember they are still baby teeth. Just sharing what my daughter's dentist told us, but not sure. I know that as an adult I wear a mouth guard at night to stop damage to mine, but my dentist also told me it was okay for her to grind while she is small. He stated it is overly common.

my son was 3 when i took him to the dentist b/c he was grinding his teeth soo bad. The dentist said it was normal, and there was no damnage to his teeth. He said as long as hes getting enough calcium, and takes care of his teeth, it wouldnt turn into an issue. He also said that kids normally just grow out of this once there adult teeth start coming in. if you are worried, or think you see damnage being done, bring him to the dentist. I know a great one in Fort Myers if you live close by!~!~!~!~

Our dentist said that was very common in 3 year olds and he would stop on his own. He is now 4 and has stopped.

My son, who's almost 7, has been doing this since he got teeth to grind! I took him to get his physical a few weeks ago, and the dr. said it was just fine. She checked to make sure that the teeth weren't getting worn down, and she said that she really couldn't see any evidence of grinding, but that if I was really worried I should take him to the dentist. She also said it was very common in kids, and that he would probably grow out of it. She told me that I could try a mouth guard (they're expensive through the dentist, but you might can find one at walmart or a pharmacy). My son won't sleep with a mouth guard so I just get him checked up at the dentist every 6 months. He only grinds at night, and only when he moves/rolls over. It sounds like he's breaking his teeth in half and chewing on them!! I thought they had to be getting damaged too, so I'll just keep taking him every 6 months to get his cleaning/check up. And he drinks plenty of milk so hopefully that helps. But remember, these are baby teeth and they will eventually fall out. I'm not saying don't worry about them at all, but I think the real worry would be if your baby continues to do it after getting all the permanent teeth. I hope this helps!

To to Walmart or Walgreens and buy the mouth piece for him to wear when he sleeps. They look like what the football players wear. The dentist said for my daughter who is 21 to get one. You can also have the dentist fit him to one if you want the major expense. Grinding teeth is a sign of stress. I am sure school is what causes her teeth grinding. She attends USF...
