Morning... I know this has come up before but I am looking for a bit more advice. My seven year old son... almost 8 has been telling me he is getting bad pains in his legs lately. Which I assume to be growing pains and he has really shot up lately. But I just want to make sure I am not missing something. This morning from the moment he got out of bed he said his legs hurt and on the way to school he was almost limping. Once we arrived he seamed to be a bit better. Is anyone else going through this and do you suggest anything to ease the pain? and to help us get through this...
Look forward to hearing back.
Thanks : )

No, there is no getting around it. Most boys go through this more so then girls. It's more like having a bad muscle spasams, the legaments has to stretch along with the bone. That was told to my mom, when my brother was growing up. If you are still not sure, have him see a doctor to be sure.

I too have a 7 year old that will be 8 in August...He has had the same thing going on with him, but it seems to be more in the evening time then in the morning...We usually give him a hot water bottle or turn on a heating pad on low and let him put it on his legs or under them. We also have rubbed them down for him and stretched them out to ease the pain. I have not given him pain reliever, but that is completely up to you. I know when I get pains in the muscles, that I take advil or ibuprofen, so maybe that would be a good idea with a low dosage. They all seem to go through it, some more so than others, but fortunately, this will pass....Good Luck!

I had terrible growing pains when I was his age. My grandma told my mom to give me more bananas and some tylonal and this worked great. Something about the potassium found in bananas helps! Try giving him at least one a day and a children's tylonal before bed. Kids do most of their growing in their sleep.

The potassium, tylenol and stretching all helped out my daughter, give them a shot. You can find OJ with extra potassium if your son dislikes bananas.

My son, same age as yours, just began complaining of this in the last few days. Early in the morning and right after school. We checked and he has grown two inches in less than 2 months. He asked for a 'warmie" last night, and I turned him down, but now that I am putting all the pieces together, I am going to give him one tonight. (warmie is a sewn piece of fabric with rice inside that I heat up in the microwave)PLUS tylenol. should do the trick. Thanks for bringing this to the table.

Not with my own kids (they're too young), but my sister had this pretty bad. She grew a lot all at once, and some days her legs hurt so bad she couldn't go to school. My mom ended up taking her to the doctor and I think he just said there was some inflamation in her legs due to her fast growth, and I would imagine he had my mom give her advil or some other anti-inflamitory. You may want to try that, and you may also want to talk to him about stretching his muscles. But I wouldn't worry unless it interferes with his daily activities or if it doesn't go away in a few weeks.

maybe when he wakes up have him do like 10mins of light streching with his legs and massage them a little bit. if his pain is bad you can give him an pain reliever but i know not all parents like to do that. i dont think your missing anything and it should pass with time. also try to get him to eat a lot of vitamin k my lil sister had bad growing pains and the vitamin k in like a banana would help. hope this info is helpful!
