sew or glue yarn along the edges of the hat. I remember my Mom doing that for my sister when we were kids. It was cute and as long as the yarn isn't itchy, it shouldn't bug her too much.
I made my 3 yr old a Strawberry Shortcake costume, but need some help the hair. I don't think she will wear a wig so I was going to sew something on the hat. I would appreciate any ideas. My first time making a halloween costume:)

I agree with the pink yarn idea. Maybe even add some pink curling ribbon in a coordinating pink shade for some added shine and depth. =0) Have fun! Sounds super cute!
I would hot glue some pink yarn to the inside rim of the hat!
Doesn't she have curly pink hair? I would get sheets of pink felt. Cut the bottom half in curly shaped strips of varying size. Then tack the felt around the hat. Felt would be light weight and cheap.
A big felt strawberry on the hat.
Spray paint her hair. I did this for my 3 yr old when she was Ariel and she thought she was soooo cool. (And so did the other kids.) The spray paint I used washed out very easily. I believe I bought it at party city or Walmart.
I say forget the hair and track down a Strawberry Shortcake Hat. They sell felt ones around and they would probably cover any cute hair you would dream up. The hat makes the costume, in my opinion!
How about red yarn? Another option is to use red hair spray.
red yarn should work well
You can get some can color spray for her hair too. I've seen it at Target in the Halloween section. It's supposed to wash out.
