Nine months after my third baby, I am still having quite a bit of hair loss. Does anyone know if this is normal, or has anyone experienced it? Any suggestions on what to do? I experienced this with my other two babies, but I don't remember it lasting this long, or losing this much. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a 4 month old and I spoke to my hairdresser about my hair loss as well. I have been experiencing it too, she said that usually it lasts for about 6 months or more depending on our hormones and getting them back to normal. I don't think you should worry too much because everyone I have spoken to is having the same problem after having a little one. Possible some vitamins may help?

Hair loss is normal post-pregnancy, however, I noticed it MUCH more with my second pregnancy than with my first. I was literally having a major receding hair line and having lots of hair break off right in front. The only difference I could tell was that after my first pregnancy I took the brand name mini-pill (I can't remember the brand name) and with the second, I tried the generic. I mentioned it to my doctor and though he said there shouldn't be any difference, he wrote me a prescription for the brand name, making sure to note that I didn't get the generic. As soon as I switched back to the brand name, the hair problems stopped. If you are taking birth control pills, you might see about switching brands to see if it helps.

Ask your doc to check your thyroid function. I never had any issues with mine until after I delivered my oldest son. Hair loss is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. You might look it up on medmd or any health site and look at the symptoms. See if you have any of the other symptoms. Hypothyroidism is not curable but it is treatable. Just a little pill a day. Good luck to you. Shannon

Hi K.. I had hair loss with both of my babies births. With the first, my hair was so unhealthy that it was breaking off. So I went from mid-back length hair, to shoulder length (with a stylist). Then with my second, I looked like I had a mullet. I had gone back to the mid-back length (from 3 years of growth) to breakage on top. So, now (because my baby is 5 months old) I have short (2 inches) hair all over (with a stylist). Everyone loves it. And best of all, now my hair is growing in healthy. I would recommend a change in your style, to allow all new growth.

Hi K.
Keep taking the prenatal vitamins. They will help with nurtrients. I also hear that the vitamins they have for hair and nails (or is is skin and nails) works well......Good Luck!

I was losing hair for what seemed like FOREVER after my second child. I don't think there is much you can do about it. If you are really concerned, call you ob and ask the nurse what she thinks. I doubt they would make you schedule an appointment for that!

It took mine years before my hair stopped coming out in big "globs". My husband used to always say he didn't see how I ever had any hair on my head because I lost so much.
