When did you ladies get your child's first haircut? My daughters bangs are starting to get in her eyes but she has curls at the nape of her neck and I really don't want to cut those, but also don't want her to look like she has a mullet :) Advice?

What can I do next?

Forget bangs. I would just pull her hair out of her eyes with a barrette or ponytail. My first daughter had bangs and it was worse to grow out when she was 4 than if we never cut bangs at all. My second daughter's hair we never cut and it was much easier to pull her hair aside until it grew long enough.

Love the name! My girl is Stella, and will be one in a few weeks :) Her hair has just started getting in her eyes, so I resorted to the Pebbles ponytail on top of her head. I thought I wouldn't like it, but she looks ridiculously cute, and it stays in much better than any clips or bows have. I waited until my son turned one before cutting his. His curls had made him look girly, but I didn't want him to grow up too soon, either...

My daughter had her bangs cut at 5 months. I had never seen such long hair on an infant. We still don't want to cut off her curls:) We just had to get her hair out of her eyes.

We got my daughters first haircut at about 17 months and at Belle Capella's. It was a tiny expensive, but I got to take pictures and they cut a few curls and tied them with a bow, and gave me an owner and stylist signed "first Hair Cut" certificate. I really had NO ideas what her hair should look like, so it was nice to be able to trust a good stylist to give her a nice haistyle.

Also, just a trick I learned to keeping your child still during the cut. Bring a few tootsie rolls for her and give her one (or even 1/2) as soon as the haircut starts. She'll keep still and the reward of the tootsie roll will be a nice little reward for being a big girl and getting her hair cut like a champ! My daughter LOVES getting her haircut and I think it was because the first haircut was really a possitive experience. Some kids HATE it and scream the entire time. Make this first time a good experience for long term.

I took my daughter recently to Snips and Giggles in Appleton off of KK. They are really nice there they took her picture and put it on a certificate with a lock of her hair. For her hair cut and the picture it was a total of $19. They are really great there and they play a cartoon movie while they cut hair so the kids are a little distracted.

If you feel like tackling this yourself, just take a small section of her bangs and snip them at an angle (not straight across) Do it in VERY SMALL sections and don't make them uniform.

If you don't want to do it yourself, go to a place that specializes in children. Kid's Cuts has a great kid friendly philosophy and most kids enjoy being there a lot.

I had my daughter's hair cut around 15mos. to even things out. It wasn't like she NEEDED a haircut but everything was so uneven I wanted to clean it up.

We went to Kids Hair and no complaints.

Maybe you've already done something . . . but I saw your question and wanted to share my 2 cents. My daughter had her first cut at 16 months - she had/has fine hair. My sister in law is a Kid's Hair stylist. They are definitely set up for children's haircuts and they are used to screamers. Even with my daughter knowing her auntie well enough - she was a screamer and a mover and shaker. My SIL really didn't recommend bangs - but we HAD to. My daughter refused barrettes, pony tails, and definitely headbands. She also just rounded out the back a bit so it didn't look so choppy. She cut her hair into a bob (not really with my approval) at about 22 months. It made it easier to start growing out her bangs and it made her hair much thicker (which was the ultimate goal) instead of having long stringy hair. At about age 2 was when she would finally allow me to start putting ponytails in her hair - without yanking them out all the time. Now, my daughter is almost 5 and wants hair as long as Rapunzels. Ha!

If you dont want to pay for a full hair cut, just cut the bangs yourself...it is pretty easy, i would normally do it while they were in the tub...dont cut too much, start with a little at a time. I think our girls were 2 when we actually brought them in for a full haircut.

UGH! My daughter will be 2 on Sunday and she's not nearly ready for a haircut! She looks like a boy because her hair is so short :( Her bangs are just starting to get long enough to cut but I don't want just a few hairs to be her first haircut! I've resorted to putting small clips and barretts in her hair to keep her bangs out of her face.

I'm a hairstylist, and can't remember how old my daughter was! All I know is that it is usually harder to grow out the bangs later, than to clip or Pebble pony it now. Mine has bangs, but she has a high forehead and I wasn't sure she'd look as good with no bang, plus her hair is realfine. My son was growing a mohawk/Eddie Munster/little old man look so I buzzed him at 7 mo. and it's coming in so much nicer! Beware, most kids look older after that 1st cut! Good luck
