Hello! We are in Naperville district 203 where there is only half day kindergarten. Our home daycare provider is not in our subdivision and does not transport. We will now have two children in her care and are looking into options for the fall for how this all works! Is there a kid's cab in Naperville? The Y after school program doesn't offer all-day care. There is a woman in the neighborhood that watches kids and I just met her today (not licensed thru DCFS, just helps neighbors). I would like our children to be together at the same location when possible. My husband works in Chicago so he wouldn't be an option for transporting and my job isn't flexible with extended lunch breaks (only 1/2 hour...not enough time). My parents may be able to help to transport but would hate to rely on them 5 days a week. What have other working parents done?
Thank you all for your responses. I am looking for more ideas too! When i called Elmwood about Kindergarten preview that had few ideas. I would like to stay with someone with a home day care rather than a center as our daughter is 3 months old (I go back to work next week...ahhh!!). We have some time, but trying to plan now. School starts at 815, I have to be at work at 8....it's rough with working parents!! Any other ideas would be helpful!
I am in Addison and my park District (not the Y) offers Kinderkeepers, and for 1st grade and up Keepers program where they take the kids to school and watch them before and after. On school holidays they have day off school programs where they watch them the whole day and do fun stuff.

I'm just wondering what you ended up doing! I am facing the same situation myself. My little boy would be attending Elmwood also next year. I have to leave to work by 7:00 and don't get until 4:30! I would love to hear what you ended up doing.
I have a home daycare and have run into this problem a couple times.
For one little girl, her grandfather used to pick her up after lunch and take her to school. I really think he enjoyed having this time with his granddaughter and also the responsibility. I know the little girl loved seeing grandpa on such a regular basis and it strengthen the bond between them and the family.
Now I have another family who needs transport to both preschool and kindergarten. Since their family does not live nearby, grandparents are not an option. Luckily, my husband is now retired and has graciously taken on the responsibility of transporting the children. This has worked out very well for all involved.
Do you have a neighbor with a child who will be in the same class as your child? Perhaps they would be able to transport your child also, even if you have to offer to pay them. If not, ask the grandparents their thoughts and see if it seems like it would be a burden. They may be glad to have the opportunity to help. You will never know unless you ask! Good Luck.
Did you know that Legally your child does not have to be in school til age 6...This is a problem for many people.. Usually the district will provide transportation for about 50 dollars a month. I am in romeoville schood district so i am not sure how it works in Naperville. I provide childcare in Bolingbrook and I do transport but I dont go that far....There is Kindergarden in my district that provides transportation and if not I can pick up the child...I am also licensed you can give me a call at ###-###-#### ask for S. ...
I have a child that will be going to kindergarten next year and 2 other younger kids. They all go to a private daycare/preschool that offers full-day kindergarten for that very reason (we both work full-time). My public school only has half-day as well and I do not want to move my children to another daycare closer to the school that will bus him. We have been very happy at their current school (Goddard), so we will be having hinm attend the full-day kindergarten there.

My daughter did the full-day Private K at Compass School, so we didn't have to worry about before and after care. My little one is still there for pre-school. But they do have a Kindergarten Enrichment program for those kids in K at the public schools. If you are in their area, they will drop off and pick up the kids from the few surrounding area schools. Their original school is at Hobson and Naper Blvd and their new school (just opened in the fall) is at 95th and 59. Not sure where you are at, but I do know the directors at the new school too, as they were at the original one first. If you are interested in more info, please send me a message.

I'm not sure. It is so very difficult if you work. I would check into daycares simply for the transport aspects of their programs. Good luck.
I know lots of people who do all day kindergarten (private) for this reason. Creme de la Creme on Diehl by Winfield Road offers all day kindergarten during the day so they don't have to go offsite. Or, Creme will bus (to Mill St at least, not sure about other elementary schools.) SSPP offers full day kindergarten -- then you just have to worry about after care. Tuition is about $3500/yr. They have some sort of after care program at the school but I don't know the details. It is close to the YMCA on Washington too. All Saints has full day Kindergarten too. Good luck.

You definately are not the only parent who has this dilemma with the 1/2 day kindergarten so I'm sure they can give you some information. It sounds like you want to stick with home day care? Many of the daycare centers offer transportation to and from nearby schools.
