My son is 3 and has a friend in his class who is 4. Apparently this child loves playing a game called Halo. I don't own a gaming system of any sort and I was wondering if this is age appropriate. From what this child was telling me, it doesn't sound like something I'd want my son to play, but I have no frame of reference. We're starting to have playdates and wondered if this is something I should be concerned about or not. Thanks for any information you can give me.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'd like to thank you all for your responses! After reading what you all had to say, I'd have to say that I'm in complete agreement. It does not sound like a game that I would want my son to see, let alone play. As for the advice stating that I should insist on E rated games only, thank you. I do appreciate all of the advice I've gotten. Thanks again!

Halo is a game for a much older person. My son is 13 and is just now allowed to play it. And he was not even allowed to play it until my husband scoped it all out. It has a lot of violence guns / swearing etc. I would say no way. Get the little one some games that have E only on them.

Totally and completely inappropriate. Games have ratings just like movies, stick with ones that are rated E for everyone.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board rates games, you can look up specific titles at their web site.

Hello, I would have to agree with the other Mamas this game is way to violent I have a 17 yr, 16 yr old and 10 yr old half brothers. My 10 yr old half brother is not even allowed in the room when the other boys play this game..I do not believe in violent games because of personal reasons-My sister was shot and killed by her husband so I do not even allow them to play guns in my house..My opinion only good luck..

The video game system version is rated M, but the computer version of this game is rated T. My boys let me know about this. The 4 year old can't be around when the older boys play.

In this game you go around shooting aliens. Maybe the 4 year old has big brothers that he has seen playing the game. No 4 year old would really ask for it, unless they had someone influencing them.

So if you are going to have playdates with this kid, the way you can get around it is say something like "I only like my son to play E rated games if you happen to have a video system."

Many years ago I had this problem with my oldest. There was a kid in the neighborhood who liked to watch Power Rangers. My son would watch it and then karate kick and punch us, so I told him he couldn't watch it. I had to talk to the kid's parents and the nanny that watched them during the day about it. They didn't agree with me and ultimately I couldn't let my son go over there, but I welcomed having the kid at my house.

I'm sorry you have to go through this with a 3 year old. There is lots of parental peer pressure out there. Stand up for what you think is right!

Absolutely not. My son went to a birthday party last year (third grade) and I was very angry the parents allowed them to play this game. It is rated M--mature not even T--teen. MY guess is that the parent thinks the children are too young at 3 and 4 to understand what they are doing but in my opinion it is completely inappropriate.

Hi A.~
My husband plays video games so I asked him about the game Halo. He said it is slightly similar to "Call of Duty" which is a fighting games...guns, violence, etc. My thoughts are that it is NOT appropriate for 3 or 4 year olds. It actually has a rating of M, for mature players only...usually referencing to 18yrs and older. My son is almost 6 and I won't let him play any games like that.
Good luck!

Hi A.! Wow. Halo is a game involving shooting slaughtering and that sort. my boyfriend plays games like this as well as call of duty. my 4 year old son does play some games on the xbox360 with him, but they only include a giant marble and lego games. anytime anykind of killing is involved he is not allowed to be in the same room. this is not a good game for children. it is rated mature on most systems. you have to be 18 to buy it. so in my case, just like cigarettes and alcohol, it is something you can enjoy as you get older. but you have to earn it with age and maturity. Good luck!
