My son had it too and we were told there is NO treatment it just has to run its course. My son, too, had the sores in his mouth and palms of his hands and the bottoms of his feet. It was very sad, i think he picked it up from daycare.
I babbysit my friends little girl and she told me that her nephews have hand foot mouth and that her daughter was playing with them. So i wanted to know if can pass hand foot mouth on to others before they show the symptoms for it?

It is SUPER contagious. I know of whole daycares that have shut down because of it.
YES!! A little girl my daughter always plays with recently had it. I called my pedi and they said the incubation time is 3-6 days from exposure. It's HIGHLY contagious and is one of the worst sickness for kidos to get. I kept my daughter home until I knew we were in the clear bc I would have felt just terrible passing it onto someone else without knowing. Thankfully, she didn't get it this time around. :)
you absolutely can...the other posters are all right. just wanted to add my experience - my son's whole daycare got it, and they all had normal hfm symptoms....my son got ALL of his sores in his mouth, none anywhere else. he didn't eat solid foods for a week and almost had to go on an iv. we got him through drinking pediasure and using malox to coat his throat, and sore throat spray (and some SERIOUSLY strong pain killers from the dr.) it was a nightmare :( wash hands, sanitize, do anything you can. it's not fun.
Yes! That's when it IS contagious! By the time you see the mouth spots and/or blisters on the feet and hands they are no longer contagious.
Absolutely!
Both of our kids just had it, and they aren't usually symptomatic for a few days.
They were cranky, had lost their appetities, and had mouth sores (as well as sores on our daughter's hands/feet - hence the name).
It was about 5 days before they were back to themselves.
