Hand Foot Mouth - When Is Contagious Period Over

I think my girls have/had hand, foot mouth. They had fevers for 2-3 days and then I noticed red sores with 1-2 blisters on the soles of their feet, and palms of hands. I am not sure if anything was in their mouth. My question is...Once the fever breaks are they no longer contagious?

What can I do next?

You've got it. I was told that once the blisters show up they are no longer contagious, even though they were more miserable!

my daughter never had a fever, just the marks on her feet.

My son just had this--once the blisters appear, they are not contagious anymore--that's the hard part about HFMD, once you "know" it (from the blisters) they've probably infected other kids during the previous incubation period. Grrrrrr......

you should probably take them to the dr to confirm what this is, and then he can tell you. my son's daycare had a break out last year and he didn't have any symptoms (not even fever), he just had a whole mouthful of dozens of sores. he didn't eat or drink for over a week. everyone else had all kinds of other symptoms, but we didn't even think that's what he had. i wouldn't want to take the chance of another child getting it worse than your kids had it.

It does sound like it. Daycare thought my kids had it but they didn't. From what I read and the docs told me Once the fever is gone they aren't contagious but most daycares won't let them back in until the blisters are gone too. Good luck. Oh, I also know there is nothing a doc can give them to make it go away or make it better. =(
