I thought it might be fun to host a fondue party at my house. I would love some ideas and suggestions on recipes, themes, where to buy stuff etc.. If anyone out there has thrown a fondue party or been to one that they really liked, I'd love to get some of your ideas.

What can I do next?

it was a blast.. you may call the MELTING POT In Addison and see what the reccommend. I remeber we had steak, mushrooms, srawberries, marshmellows, all kinds of things when we went to the melting pot.

I went to a great fondue party last year. We had 4 fondue pots going all at once. 2 had cheese recipes and 2 had chocolate recipes. The cheese recipes were a traditional cheese fondue and a white cheese fondue. The chocolate recipes were a dark chocolate and a white chocolate. We set everything up like a buffet style and everyone ate what they wanted. Williams Sonoma has a great book on fondue, with lots of good recipes. Hope that helps!

I have had a few friends over for fondue, but haven't had a real party. I do suggest avoiding the meats unless you feel really confident. It seems harder to get them to come out right. You can still have a couple kinds of cheese and of course chocolate fondues. There are tons of good recipe books out there. Just follow the directions to the letter. A small variation can really spell disaster. If you follow directions you are fine. Simple works well. Be careful not to burn the chocolate which can happen easily! And have plenty of wine :)

Hi R.,
I have hosted a fondue party at my home and it was so much fun! We had both a meat and a cheese fondue pot going. Afterward, we cleaned out the cheese pot and made chocolate fondue; the best part. I have found reasonable fondue pots and accessories on Ebay. It would be neat to have those "old timey" sectional fondue plates, so people have little compartments to put their different dipping items. There are several fondue books I found at Barnes & Noble to steal recipes from (eg "Fondue" by Fiona Smith). Or just search on Epicurious.com for fondue recipes. I would recommend a Gruyer/Emmental cheese recipe; dip cubed baguette pieces, boiled new potatoes, and/or cooked garlic sausage in that. Separately, the beef cubes are fondued in hot oil. You can have various dips for the beef like hot mustard, bbq, etc. There are various fondue dips at Williams Sonoma or Central Market probably. For the chocolate fondue (you can buy it pre-packaged or make your own using semi-sweet morsels and whipping cream in a double boiler), prepare cut strawberries, bananas, oranges, marshmallows, etc! I would probably limit the party to 8 people, ideally 6. Otherwise, there are a lot of arms. Have fun!!
