Has Anyone Ever Tried a Portable Fetal Heart Monitor?

Hi, I'm now 14 weeks pregnant, but after suffering 2 miscarriages, I still get nervous every single day! I'm thinking about buying or renting a portable doppler monitor. Has anyone ever used one of these, and if so, where do you recommend me getting one from? Is it better to rent one or buy one (although I think they're probably expensive). I would just like some extra reassurance from a machine like this so I don't have to keep running to the doctor each week for an ultrasound! Thanks soooo much!!

Hi I.,
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had also had a couple miscarriages before my first one was born. I went through Stork Radio. You can buy or rent. I rented and the doppler was brand new. It came with gel. Never had a problem and if you do, you just call and they'll replace it. I sent it back after I was almost ready to deliver. The whole process was painless.

The doppler is a good thing because it can give you peace of mind but it's a bad thing if you can't find the heartbeat and you freak out. When all that happened was that the baby moved. I used it less once I could feel the baby moving.

Good luck and try and enjoy your pregnancy.

Hi I.,
I also had 2 miscarriages, and fortunately one healthy son. I rented a fetal heart monitor from babybeat.com. They had excellent service; I just rented one from them again. I love having the monitor at home for peace of mind. I rented one of their cheaper models - I don't think you need the recording option or digital display. Best wishes.

A friend of mine who lost 3 babies bought her last dopler at Toys R Us, it was under $50 and it worked fine. however there were a few times she could not hear anything and she rushed to the hospital, only to learn that the baby was positioned in an awkward way.

Hope this helps.
