I thought something must be terribly wrong...but no I was told by my OB that it was "normal". And they do get better.
Hang in there.
Hi all! I got my period back after my 3rd child last month, and it came on schedule again this month, but both times so far have been SO HEAVY! I mean, it's bad! Has anyone experienced this? Does it get better in time? I'm guessing its pretty normal, since it lasts about 5 days, but i am changing my feminine product almost hourly! ugghh! thanks for listening!

Hi C. - definitely make an appt soon to discuss this with your OB/Gyn as there are a number of things that can cause this. Not all of them are terrible or require invasive treatment. Your doctor can help you evaluate the cause and recommend a treatment if one is necessary.
Good luck to you!
My periods have gotten heavier with each pregnancy. After my third it was the worst. It has lightened up, but I am still pretty heavy for the first 2 days.
HI C.,
Well I can only tell you from experience that after all of my kids (7x) I have had very heavy & long periods. From the day i start again, around 3 mo. postpartum to when I get pregnant again. My periods are regular like clockwork every 28 days. And they last 7-10 days. They are also very heavy.
If yours are regular that's always good. You may need a natural hormone balancing cream to regulate hormones. I have more info. on this if your interested. I hope this helps. G.
I did! They were awful. Sounds a lot like what you're going through - really heavy bleeding, cramping that was out of this world. Yup.
I started getting my period again about a year ago. The last 2 or 3 months haven't been as bad, I won't say they're good, but they don't make me want to die anymore! :D I'd say that I still have 1 or 2 days that are really heavy, but I have always had bad periods - so I might just be returning to normal!
Yeah that happened to me to-I actually had quite a few blood clots which my doctor said was normal. I am not sure why it happens but it does. Good luck-I know it is really annoying!
With both of my kids I had heavy periods for almost 6 mos afterwards. Talk with your OBGYN if you are concerned but it took me a good year to get my body back on track. Good luck!
Same thing happened to me. We think we are doing well not to have periods for 9 months, but then when we finally get one again it is all of those added together and more! I remember mine lasting for a long time - like well over a week. As always, if you feel something is not quite right or goes beyond what you experienced last time, definitely call your Dr or Ask a Nurse. Better safe than sorry.
Congrats.

C. - I had the same problem after the birth of my son, who is now 3 1/2 years old. I was bleeding so badly that I could not leave the house and was doubling up on feminine products and still bleeding through about every 1/2 hour. My doctor gave me four options which included; hormone therapy (pill/IUD), D&C (scraping of the uterine lining), endometrial ablation (destroy the uterine lining) or a hysterectomy. The question is do you plan on having more kids? If no, the 3rd and 4th options are a possibility. I went with the Mirena IUD and have loved it. I have not had a period since getting it, except for some slight (and I mean slight) spotting when I should be getting my period. I absolutely love it and it can remain in place for up to five years. At that time, I will know for certain if I am planning any more children and if not will choose option 3 or 4 at that point, as I will not live with heavy periods ever again. I am very active person and not being able to leave my house for two to three days a month for fear of bleeding through my clothes within a half hours time was mortifying. The best thing to do is discuss these options with your doctor and make the best choice for your situation. Best of luck to you! L.
Hi C... Yep! Happens quite often... I recommend a book by Dr John Lee called "what your Dr may not tell you about pre-menopause"... It's a lifesaver! I went through the same thing, it happens reallly early in life sometimes (26-35yrs old!) but you can remedy it with bio-identical progesterone cream. I've helped hundreds with this recommendation! Drs. will want to put you on the pill...DON'T do it!! You can also start getting worse cramping too...it will help that as well as acne, headache, sleeplessness & anxiety that also often presents. Hope that helps... I have a favorite brand that dr Lee recommends...email if you want more info! Blessings, P
I know exactly where you are coming from. When I got my periods it was like that first trip to the bathroom after giving birth...Scary. And then they would last for weeks.
I went to the Dr and she perscribed me the pill. I had my tubes tied to it is strictly for regulatory purposes. She said I could take three months worth of pills, skipping the placebo week. That lowered me to 4 periods a year and they are nothing like how they were. They are now fairly light. I do have occasional spotting, but it is so worth not having to stay home for a week or two because of leakage fear. Funny, before giving birth I laughed when I saw super tampons, then after I gave birth they couldn't get super enough. Now after my pill solution, I am back to regulars and barely even need a super much less the "super duper" ones. Sorry if I was to graphic.
Good Luck!
C.,
