Has Anyone Had a Tummy Tuck?

Hi everyone! I wanted to know if anyone else out there has had a tummy tuck. I have a significant amount of excess skin left on my belly from 2 pregnancies. My youngest is now 2 and I have done everything I could to try and "lose" the baby pouch that I have left. I just don't think that I am blessed with very elastic skin. So my question is, has anyone else had an abdominoplasty? Was it a good/bad experience? I am going for a consultation at a plastic surgeon, but wanted to see if anyone had any insight before I went!

Hi D.,

I had an abdominoplasty and breast lift/implants all at the same time. My surgeon was amazing. I also had two c-sections, and he was able to make his incision in the same place as the c-section incision (although my scar is now longer due to the tummy tuck). My breasts hurt a lot more than my abdomen when I was recovering. It was definitely worth it.

Hi D.,
I personally have not had a tummy tuck (but would love one!). But a friend of mine had one 3 years ago. Her stomach is still flat and looks amazing. She did however have to have a reconstructive surgery recently b/c they did something weird w/ her bellybutton. I believe she said it cost around $8k 3 years ago. Other than the bellybutton, I know she is very happy with it. Do your research and good luck!

Don't do it now if any more babies are in your future!! Also do research on your surgeon. How many has he done, where did he go to school, etc. Good Luck! A.

I've thought about a tummy tuck but don't believe in elective surgey for many of the reasons others said. It's always a risk going under anesthesia, etc. and I need to be here for the long run. I'm still struggling to get the weight off from my two sons - 3 and 5. So kudos to you for getting the weight off.

Think long and hard. If you elect to get it done, do everything stated above - research the doctor and the anesthesiologist. Good luck! Let us know how it works out. --A.

Hi D.,

You need to feel good about yourself....so don't listen to people that tell you that this will rub off on your daughters. Yes, if you complain about your body in front of them, that's not good. I have a habit of pinching my belly pouch in front of the kids. I do plan to get a tummy tuck if working out doesn't fix things. I miss my flat abs & perky boobs. I also would like to get a boob lift or implants to perk up what now looks like two tube socks on my chest. I have a c-section scar that I wear with pride, but I don't need to look like a shar pei the rest of my life! My best advice is to ask your doctor or dermatologist for a recommendation. If you know someone that has had "work", ask them who they went to. Definitely see a few doctors & make sure they are board certified in plastic surgery (apparently, even dentists can do "plastic surgery"). I wish you the best & I know how you feel.
Best of luck,
A.

I had the equivilent of a tummy tuck as part of my breast reconstruction (I had a tram flap) and while I love the flat tummy, I wouldn't have ever opted for the risk or expense of surgery if it wasn't part of my reconstruction. But only you can know if the risks of surgery are right for you! Good luck.

I am in your same camp, I loved my body and after my first pg everything went south :o). I lost all my pregnancy wait and even more but my belly was stretched so I am not comfortable wearing a bikini anymore. I did nothing about it b/c I knew I would get pregnant again, I am expecting my second in Feb so after that I will think about this long and hard. My sis in law had a breast lift and a tummy tuck, the best thing she ever did, she looks amaizing!!!!! So do what is best for you and you feel is right. You need to feel good about yourself and be happy so that you can make others happy. The one thing I would tell you is to research, research, research. Educate yourself about the dr you will use, ask to talk to some of his patients, make sure you understand the risks and the go on and make an educated decision. As long as you have the support of your family you will be ok. Good luck and if you decide to have it let me know how it went I will need the encouragement.

I had a tuck when my 3 kids were 7,5 &3. I obtained a good reference from my Pilates teacher (she looked awesome!). And interviewed the doctor. We had a good connection and he scheduled me right away. It costed in total about 10K. It was an outpatient surgery, and that was very good for me, since it was very painful afterwards and I like to be home for that, but if you like a bit more taken care of, stay overnight at the hospital. Three days later the doctor took the draining tubes out and I realized he had made a vertical incision I was not expecting! He said it was the only way to close me up since there really was too much sking left on my belly. I have been very happy with the results, but I do hate to look at the scars, they are very visible, but I suppose better than before. I look great in jeans! good luck to you....
