Potty training boys 2 years and under?

I ask because my son (20 months) and can walk around the house without a diaper and pants on and not pee all over the place and will try to tell us he needs to go. We are a little thick and just don’t get it when he tells us so he will find a slice of hardwood floor to go. (Score he’s not like a dog that will find the cleanest spot on the rug to go) I want to try to train him but we live with my in-laws and only one bathroom. I prefer to keep the kids upstairs and play in their play room so not to touch and break things any more then they do now. We are home most of the day other than driving his older brother to school and picking him up 3 times a week.
I’m asking this question to get impute from other mothers that have been successful with potty training boys that are young.
I was thinking about getting a potty seat to use but and afraid that is the only potty he will use and not want to try the big one. I really would like impute on this so please let me know.

Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

My son was completely potty trained at 2 and 3 months. He also just got it. I did have a seperate potty for him that he would use wherever he was, like in front of the tv, in his room, etc. Then when he was completely used to that, we got a seat that fits on the regular toilet which he still uses when he goes poop. Anyway...if I were you I'd go for it if he has some understanding of what's going on. The sooner they're out of diapers, the better. I have to say though, my son wasn't out of pull ups at night until about 3 and a few months. It took us a while for that was mostly my fault for giving him too much to drink too late. Once we cracked down on it he got it very quickly.

Good luck.

you can definately try...but for the most ive been told over & over again they usually dont get until 31/2...but by no means should you not try ...thats when i started with my son he is 31/2 now...but get a potty but also get the seat cover for the big toilet...my son loved it...until he learned how to pee standing up now thats what he does...but it definately takes a lot of time...just dont feel bad if he doesnt get it because he is so young...whatever you do try to make it as enjoyable as possible or it will make the situation a lot harder than it needs to be...good luck :D

Hello L.,
A 20 months old can be potty trained without any problems.
If you are not sure about using a potty, go get a potty ring. That way your boy will be using the toilet like a grown up from the start.
Good luck,

hi L., well my son is 16 months and i have him trained to use the potty twice a day, which is in the morning when he first wakes up and after his nap in the later part of the evening. He does pretty well with it at first he didnt want to but now its nothing he kinda understands that when i sit on the toilet he should go pee pee too. Somedays i can just tell him to go pee and he will squeeze a little bit and be finished with it. Hope this helps.

Absolutely!!! I have a 3 year old who now uses the potty on his own. He calls me in the bathroom, to help him wipe. But he pulls his own pants down and crawls onto the big potty. I started EC with him though when he was about 8 or 10 months old. To learn what this is: http://www.WhatisEC.com/

And when we started EC, he would use the little baby bjorn potty and sometimes I would also help him to use the bigger regular potty. Sounds like your son wants to do that as well.

Any other questions, you can email me anytime: ____@____.com You got a great kid!!!:D
