Hi I am L. I just had the gastric bypass surgery on Jan 23,2008 I am in a Size 26-28 top and 22 pants at 255 The doctor told me that with my high triglycerides (over 500) That the bypass would work better and also I don't have that much will power after failing from so many diets for about 20 years. I'm 38 yrs old with children 3 and 8. He also told me since I'm a sugar carb person that the bypass works better It by passes the duodenum Which causes cravings Food what little I have had Taste alot different vanilla yogurt Low fat I hated couldn't stand know It taste pretty good 2 Regular spoon fulls is enough or 1 cracker is enough. Getting in the water 64oz is really hard because you take a sip wait 30 seconds then again I had looked into both surgery Since I had to pay from my pocket I wanted the right one for me. With no regrets Wishing I would have done the other. I was leaning toward the lap band Cost 16,000 laparoscopic procedure vs Bypass Cost 25,000 Stomach cut open from 2 in below bra to 4 in above belly button. Anyone I have talked to said only regret is not doing it sooner. Tummy tuck is another story they say it really hurts. go to web sight lapband.com and baraitric.com With the lap band they do not fill the band until 3 months after surgery for every thing to heal I think on both you need to take calcium and iron and milt vitamins and to make sure you get enough protein. I had mine done by Doctor Wornock in Wichita Falls I know Dr snow In fw/dallas does lapbands. It's not the easy way out by alot of ways Because you have to change your life or It won't work But its a good tool. Most important thing is follow the rules and you will be fine. Best thing to do is go to their monthly meetings ask at the meetings go talk to a doctor that does do this type of things If you have any health problems ask your doctor what they think Mine tolled me no you can do it your self Know 2 days before surgery she said that would really help you. If you have any more question I'll try to help ____@____.com Good luck
L. M
ps I'm not taking med for triglycerides any more Cost 165.00 monthly

My mother got it a month ago, and its been hard for her to stick to the diet, but she's done it and she's lost about 8-10 lbs. already. =) She lost about 8-10 lbs. before she got the surgery as well, because for about two weeks or so before then you're supposed to be on Atdkins. I don't know, she still gets really sore sometimes and she said the fills are a little painful, but that its worth it. Her sleep apnea has already improved slightly because of the weight loss, her blood pressure is going down. I think its been really good for her.

I have not had the procedure, but I know a few people who have had it.

What I know is that they have to eat very slowly. VERY slowly. It's almost like they just graze all day. Basically, because the band restricts the amount of food that goes into your stomach, if they eat too quickly, it all just backs up into their throat. Not very appealing if you ask me.

They have all lost a lot of weight with it and you can get the band adjusted if you need to.

As with anything, you need to weigh the pros and cons while considering this.

My best friend from Jr. High got it done a few years ago. It was a very drastic change for her and left her with very little energy to begin with. You basically go into starvation mode for months. I don't know if she would do it again but the results are there, she went from a size 22 to size 8.

My sister had the lapband surgery about one year ago and has lost 70 or more pounds very healthily. She is now down to about 190 lbs. and still wants to loose some more since she is so short. Before she had this done, I was worried about how fast you loose weight. I was pleasantly surprised how healthy the lapband surgery was. It's certainly not as severe as gastric bypass. If you would like to speak with her, contact me and I will pass her email addy on to you.

BTW, she's a mama to three kids and 39 years old.

I have 3 close friends who were all overweight; it's funny but 1 had the lap band, another had the bypass surgery and my 3rd friend joined Weight Watchers. The 2 that had procedures lost lots of weight at first; but have gained back half of it. Partly because they do eat all day anyway;just small portions and slowly. They were size 3x, now they are Size 24. My 3rd friend who joined Weight Watchers is now working there because she went from a 3x to a size 8 and has kept it all off; it's been 4 years now. Save your money and your body from surgery and try Weight Watchers first. If you are ready to make the change; you will love it. I lost 25 pounds in 8 months with Weight Watchers. It's safer. They have so much at the grocery store that you can buy now. Good Luck!

I have not had the lapband, but am also pursuing it, and trying to gain information about it. Awhile back I joined a group on yahoo called DFWBandsters. It's a forum group of people who have all had the lapband procedure, or are pursing it, or like us are wanting information about it. It's been extremely helpful to me. There are many well informed people on it, who also have lots of resource information as well as advice on the different doctors/ clinics etc. in our area. (I'm in Irving TX) You may want to check it out. I think you'd find it very helpful.

I had the procedure done 2 years ago this december. It has worked very well for me. I have lost 75lbs so far, I have taken the slow route by only have 2 fills done per year, I wanted to take it slow so that my skin would have time to catch up with my weight loss. I have not had any problems and I feel great.

Yes, i have. I had it placed in Monterrey and loved it. I lost 70 lbs within the first year. I then got pregnant.I had tried to get pregnant for the past 4 yrs and figured it was my weight. So I lost all my weight and was so happy that I was able to fit in sizes that I wore in high school, it was great. I now have a 5 1/2 month old and have not went to have saline put back into to the band. I had it removed when I was about 6months pregnant. If you have any questions email me

Yes, I had it in August of 06 and am soooooo happy. I was right at the obese mark and since I was a cash pay, they gave me the OK to get it done. I am 5ft and weighed 176. I now weigh 131 and look great and have so much more energy and self esteem. I was really frustrated at first and had a hard time with no bread and cokes. I ate too much, too fast and would get sick a lot, but then I figured it all out and don't grieve food like I did before or get sick. It's so worth it!!! I try to eat healthy most days, but I admit that chips and hot sauce are my down fall. I can eat that stuff like crazy and never gain a pound. I eat all kinds of mexican food, but no flour tortillas. And now I'm starting to be able to drink diet cokes again with no problems. I get comments all the time on how good I look and I love it!! I even went and had a new short hair cut and I don't even look like the same person anymore. Do it!! You'll be glad you did, I swear. My doctor was John Marsden in Lewisville, TX, but he did my surgery in Haltom City, TX . --- D.
