Has Anyone Heard of Prepaid Legal?

Like Colleen, I have had good experience with Prepaid Legal. I signed up with a debt consolidation company that did absolutely nothing to try to help me save money (helped wreck my credit actually). Even though I fulfilled the requirements to get my refund back(60% of the amt I paid), they totally ignored me completely until I contacted PPL.

They sent a letter to the company on my behalf - an voila! I got refunded the full amount - not just the 60% I was asking for. I do agree with some of the posters who say that a specialized attorney is needed for more in-depth matters, but in my case it was relatively trivial and I got great result.

IT's easy it has all the books and you do the work your self and yes of course there is some one there to help you if you need it and they have offices call your local HRC human resource center or first five depending on where you live

I used it many years ago and found it's ok for basic legal stuff. It's a "do it yourself with guidance" type of program. If you have a serious legal matter you're better off seeking the help of a top rated lawyer in that field of law. In the long run, you'll save money and aggravation.

Hello- I used it for short period, when you sign up they send you a packet with standard forms to get your will etc put in place - somewhat useful but I think you can find boilerplate forms online. When you want to speak to a lawyer you call the number on the card they give you, leave a message about your question, and someone calls within about 24 hours. I canceled the service after a few months because I felt the quality of the advice and service was poor. I work with respected, professional lawyers in my job and did not appreciate the condescending attitude of the second-string lawyers I spoke with for my two inquiries. Others may have had better experiences with PPL but I decided I would rather be able to choose my own lawyer and just pay their billing rate if I ever need one.

I am a Pre-Paid Legal Independent Associate. I am also a stay at home mom. I love the fact that I have access to an attorney without having to spend a large sum of money for a retainer fee. I also have Identity theft protection that protects me from credit card, identity and health insurance fraud to name a few. I am also provided with a living will for free that I can update free once a year if I choose.

As for the home business portion of Pre-Paid Legal, it offers stay at home moms the opportunity to earn a full time income doing Part time work.

I had a prepaid plan through American Express and don't recommend these plans. I had to choose an attorney as my primary, and when I had legal questions it was not that attorney's area of expertise. To talk to another attorney I had to switch, but in two states I lived in (both metropolitan areas) I was not able to find the type of attorney I needed within my county. It was a problem that they were not familiar with the local jurisdictions. I now hire as needed, which isn't very often. Unless you know that you need specific services included with the plan, you may be paying out quite a bit of money with no return.

I've had the service for a few years now and have used it a few times (Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc is the company. Therea re other pre-paid legal plans out there). It's good for basic questions or when you need advice or help with something you feel you were wrong on (bills, unfair charges). I have used thier advice on speeding tickets and a contract dispute. I have kept my plan because I also have the the identity theft portion of it and it gives me so much peace of mind knowing that I am at least somewhat protected (monitored) in the are of ID theft (it's not just if someone uses my credit, it cover any theft of my identity for any reason) and gives me access to the laywers I'll need to clear up any problems.

Unlike everyone else I had a good experience with them. I got ripped off when I moved. The moving company overcharged me and wouldn't work with me so I called PPL. They wrote a nasty gram and the moving company went back to their original quote. When I move next time I am going to use them again.

We have prepaid legal and my husband won't get rid of it! They will go to traffic court for you to fight a ticket. They do estate planning, will wright legal letters for you, etc. My brother-in-law is using them for a loan mod on his house because Wacovia said they didn't have any loan mod programs and some other places he looked into for these types of services were way too expensive!

There are many more things that Prepaid legal does. It is like having your own attorney firm on retainer.

I don't know exactly how they work but like I said, money is tight in this house and my husband is willing to pay the extra expense to keep prepaid legal. I think they even do bankrupsy.

My mom told me about that service and she has paid for it. I checked out their website too and it seems legit.
What I don't like about it, is that you make money from selling it to others. It sounds like a pyramid scam to me. Tried to tell my mom to be careful, but she won't listen.

I have heard of them, tried them, got caught up in their "legal knowledge" and promised never to refer anyone to them. These people use you to promote their business and you end up marketing their format but it really is only good for wills which they just use a standard form which you can pick up anywhere.
Any way I also found they only use attorneys based out of LA and if you actually have a case to run by them, they fleet it out to some unknown office and your response is usually sorry we can't help you.
If you really need an attorney for something, stay intown and I personally know good attorneys that I work with, have worked with and can refer you to. I am a paralegal and work with a great attorney for personal injury matters, criminal DUI issues, general business issues, we have a family law attorney in our office that is awesome at his work, a bankruptcy attorney who is great and another criminal attorney just in our suite.
So, think before you get sucked in.
