Just mix the formula per package instuctions, keep in fridge and mix with breast milk in any ratio you choose. Can be frozen too!

I am back to work now full time and have been exclusively breastfeeding. Until I get us in the flow of the new work schedule and pumping enough stock I need to give my son some formula. We have tried straight formula and he won't take it. My husband has been doing the mixing and I'm worried about the recipe?
First time he did 3oz milk, 1 oz water, and 1 scoop formula. I said not to do this one again as the formula recipe is 2 scoops to 4 oz water.
So then he tried 2 oz milk 2 oz water 1 scoop formula.
What do ya'll think?

As long as you are following the recipe as directed by the formula, 2oz water and 1 scoop of milk, the mix should be fine. Depending on how much you are getting when you pump and how much your baby is eating in one sitting will determine how your mixture will balance. If your baby is eating 4 oz at a time..then the equal ration should work great.
I went back to work full time when my son was 10 weeks old and successfully nursed him fully till 10 months. If you pump at work as many times as he eats at home while you are gone, you will be in good shape!! Try to take your breaks to pump on the same schedule he eats so that your bodies are on the same schedule--that way on your days off your bodies will be in synch.
If you have to mix formula in, just mix the formula as you would according to the package. 1 scoop to 2 oz water. Then mix the formula with the breast milk after the formula is in liquid form. Don't count the breast milk at all toward the liquid ratio for the formula.
The reason he wont take the formula is because breast milk is thicker and much sweeter. The best thing to do is start with 1/4 formula and 3/4 breast milk for the first few feedings. then go 1/2 and 1/2 and so so. This will also give his digestive system a chance to adjust.
Mix the formula like you normally would, just slowly add milk as you go along so that the baby can get used to it. For instance if you are making a four ounce bottle mix 3 ounces formula a one ounce milk, after a week or so or when you think its ok, mix 2 ounces formula 2 ounces milk and so on
