Hiya Moms,
I am not seeking advice on an alternative to Alli nor am I seeking diet & nutrition advice. I am simply asking if anyone is on this or has tried it and if so, is it/did it work? Any adverse side effects experienced? Yes, I joined a gym, I go at the least 3x weekly. Yes, I am eating low-fat/low-cal. This was suggested by my family Dr (going there since I am 16) and I started it yesterday.

So What Happened?

Well, the stuff really does work! I have no horror stories about bm's or bad gas sooooooooo. I did stop it for now as I have bronchitis and laryngitis and have been sick since last Monday. Thanks all for your input!

Hi Christina,
I have not tried Alli myself however several friends have. Each said the same thing. It DOES work BUT, you have to be very diligent and stick to low fat foods. The minute you try to indulge or eat more fat than is recommended, you are in the bathroom. Once you find yourself in the bathroom the first time, each said you learn your lesson and won't do it again. Each of them has lost several pounds and all said once you start this, you learn to make better choices and eat properly due to the consequences you'll have! They are different body types and also each wanted to lose 30 pounds or more.
I myself plan on starting it soon. Keep me posted how you do! Good luck!

I tried it for a couple of weeks. I personally didn't think it was worth the money. But that could have been because I wasn't on it long enough. Who knows. I also experienced pretty bad side effects, but I don't think I was careful enough about counting my fat grams for that meal. (Thank goodness it only happened once) It was pretty nasty though, so you can't slip up!!!

I have never tried it myself and this is why: It tells you in the directions basically to not go far from a bathroom. It may cause loose bowls or other types of things. I saw something on this Alli before it really came out big time on the market. Just knowing that I may have an accident was enough to keep me from it. Hope it works for you though! I'm always looking for something that helps loose weight. (I personally have tried NV and Size zero and they have both worked pretty well. Size Zero actually working better.)

This is a diet drug that used to be prescription only and was failing because of the terrible side effects and small success. So the FDA approved it for over the counter use (I wonder who pocketed the money on that deal?). Apparently the results of the drug are no different/only slightly different than the results you would get if you just ate right and exercised. And if you slip up when you are just eating right, at least your stomach doesn't freak out and want to explode on you like it would if you took this pill. I haven't tried it because I read so many reports that this is almost like a money-making scheme for the manufacturer with the government's help. They assume that you will spend a certain amount of money by sticking with it for 3 months, even if it is painful, before abandoning it (and people do end up losing weight because they are watching what they eat and following a reasonable diet and exercise plan so it appears to them that the drug is working-when the diet without the drug would do just as well for them). and so many people will try it for 3 months that they make tons of money, even though the drug is useless basically. I suggest you just do a diet that works for you and work out like you have been doing and eventually the weight will come off. It takes up to 2 years for some people to get the weight off, even if trying hard. I can attest to this. I work out and eat right all the time and I still have trouble, but then eventually I start to lose a little, then some more, then some more. It just takes time and perseverance. This has happened to me after having both my kids. I have been working out now and eating right for about a year and finally the weight is dropping off. frustrating, I know. but I think it is a hormone thing for some moms. Good luck! I know how annoying it can be! But drug free is the best way to be...

Hi. I found it very difficult to remember to take the pill at every meal. I know remembering to take the pill doesnt seem like a big deal but this is what I struggled with and as a result, since I wasnt consistant, I didnt stay with it. I didnt have any bad side effects but I know the materials say you should not eat any more than 19 g fat at each meal since this will/could produce bad side effects. Hope this helps, some.

I tried it for about a month and gave up on it. It worked well for the most part but then I felt like I could do it without it and I started to get freaked out about putting yet another foreign chemical in to my body. In any case, it taught me to eat correctly but I did go over the 19 grams before and I thought I was going to die! The side effects are awful if you have them and originally, I did not think I would get them because I pushed the envelope quite a bit on the fat intake. It wasn't until that fateful day that I cried from pain from the side effects. In any case, I find it easier to just eat right. The way it works really is that it helps you stay on a strict diet. I feel like I am able to regulate my diet at this point.

Well, this stuff does really work and because it does, that is why it was put on the Market and also because insurance companies wouldn't pay for the drug, so by making it half strength, the FDA approved it to be safe for everyone. I lost 80 lb before my last pregancy on the regular strength and when I am ready for a boost I will get it over the counter. This is not a bad drug, it doesn't even mess with other meds. I am a heart failure patient on 31 pills a day and was allowed to take it! Taking the drug is for a purpose, if you EAT too much, then bad results happen. You also have 30 minutes before or after your meal to take or not take the pill to help with the fat. Choices can be made on a daily basis and with no side effects from not taking it everyday.
Just my thoughts about the drug.

Tried it, loved it. You'll only get side effects if you eat more than 15 grams of fat in one meal. If you're eating very low fat in a meal, you don't have to take it. I took it only when I was eating like 8 or more grams. I lost 15 pounds, and I didn't work out. They have fantastic support on the web- you weigh in every week and they make recipes and shopping extremely easy. If you try it, good luck!
