Has Anyone Tried the Disney DVD Club?

I'm always a skeptic. We've been getting those packets about getting 4 Disney DVDS for $1.99 each and then you have to buy like..2 extra DVDs at regular cost or something like that. Anyways...I always get nervous doing stuff like that. I always expect some big scam to show up. So just wondering if anyone has joined this and happy with it. Thanks for any input you can offer!

Ali,
I have tried the Disney club. I had no problems with it at all. I got the first 4 for $1.99 then had to buy two more at club price. Once I fulfilled my obligation I cancelled my membership, only because we had all the movies we wanted at that point.

Yes......do not use! You will end up paying more in shipping and handling. WalMart and Target have these same DVD's the first week of release equal or cheaper and NO hidden fees. The first thing I found of Disney that I totally am disappointed. We even have a timeshare with Disney and honesty I'm shocked.

I am a huge Disney fanatic, so I did join the Disney Movie Club a year or so ago. I did recieve all the $1.99 movies and purchased my required amount after that. My only issue with the club is that each month they send you a form and if you don't return it you automatically get a DVD mailed to you and it is charged to your credit card. So, if you forget to mail it back (like I did this month!) you automatically get a movie you may or may not want at full price. However, you can return the movie and they will credit your credit card (it's already happened to me once), so I only got stuck paying the postage to send it back to them. It's just kind-of a pain. But you can cancel your membership at any time after you purchase your required movies. I find if you are ordering a lot of movies at once (and can therefore take advantage of their 50% deals) it is a good deal money-wise. Otherwise, it is no cheaper than just buying the movies. But the beginning part with the $1.99 movies is a great deal and I thought it was worth it to join just to get that.

I joined the disney club a few months ago. they often have good deals, you usually have to buy one thing at the regular price (usually 21.95) to get the discounts. the committment also has to be made at regular prices. i did hit a great deal for free shipping and got like 6 or 7 movies right before christmas for like $50 and they came wrapped in disney christmas boxes. as long as you can keep up with accepting or declining the monthly feature i think it's fine. i really love it!

I LOVE THE DVD CLUB!!! It's easy to decline any unwanted DVD's also...just go on line and click "No Thanks!" I am a disney freak and wanted to build up my collection so joined for a few years. I have since canceled but only because of financial reasons. If you forget to decline and are sent a movie you do not want it's also easy to return ;) If you can afford it...do it ;)

Yes, I am a member and I like it. It took me a while to actually join, I thought about it a lot. I love Disney movies, so I joined. You can do it on-line or by regular mail. You'll alos get a packet in the mail each time it's time to accept or decline an offer, it helps to remind you. I did it all on-line, once I get the packet I go to the website and make my decision. It's good if you are able to afford it, they do have some good deals, too. It's your decision to make, good luck.

I have been using the movie club for about 2 years now, and we love it. After you purchase your fulfillment, they offer amazing deals (like by 1 get as many as you want for 50% off) as well as the ability to receive a free disney pin of your choice with every order. We love it and they have never asked a question when i've forgotten to respond and returned a movie. We love it!

Hi
I did the Disney DVD club a few years ago, and thought it was fine. If you're interested in enlarging your collection I'd say this is a good way to do it for less money. The only thing is that you have to stay on top of responding to the "dvd of the month" things that they'll send you - if you don't want the dvd you must respond by a certain date otherwise they'll send it to you and bill you. Now I did forget a couple times, and I called them and was able to return it, but it's easier if you just pay attention and respond when you're supposed to. If you buy the number of movies that you're supposed to at full price it's very easy to cancel your membership if you don't want to continue. Customer service was great.

Hi Ali~

I did the Disney movie club... There was no scam when I did it.. I just got my 1.99 DVDs and then purchased overtime the regular price ones (I forget how many) The only down fall is they send you movie of the month. If you want it or don't want it you need to respond.. Otherwise after the date they send the movie and you get stuck paying for it or sending it back and paying the shipping. I kept up with after a while.. But sometimes I would try and respond online and it would be down and then I would forget about it. ETC..
I personally think it is a good thing in the beginning and they do have some deals at different times that they will mail you. But after I got my moneys worth I found myself purchasing the movies at Target or somewhere else for cheaper. But you still save when you sign up and just get the required amount.. I just canceled my membership after that without any difficulties
Good luck with your decision

Hey Ali,

I did the Disney Movie Club and I like it. It definitely has pros and cons like most have said.
Some pros: It was great to get a bunch of movies quickly. I got the four dvds for 1.99 then I got the next one for 14.95 and the fifth for 9.99 (something like that). I did what some suggested which was full my commitment and canceled. It was worth it. I would get deals all the time where if I bought two movies I would get free shipping. Or buy a movie at regular price get the second half off. But you need to be careful because sometimes those "deals" don't count towards your commitment. Anything not purchased full price doesn’t count. Just make sure you read.
Some cons would be a movie would come out of the Disney vault and it would be in stores but wouldn’t come out as part of the movie club until months later! That could drive you nuts. They promote VIP memberships which is when you fulfill your commitment. I was so disappointed because it says you get exclusive purchases. But it was not for anything good.

Hope that helps!

Beth

Hi Ali, Yes, we did the Disney DVD club (but back then it was VHS) when our girls were little. It is great if you don't already have a lot of Disney movies and know that you will want to puchase them now or in the next two years. The terms are simple and easy and since it is throuh Disney you don't have to worry about getting ripped off at all. Best wishes.

I joined and I wish I hadn't. It such a pain in the rear end trying to remember to decline the feature title every month and if you forget then they automatically send you the movie. If you send the movie back then they send you a nasty letter for returning it. It's just a hassel. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes. We have done the DVD club. It works fine. Just make sure you always answer the monthly selection immediately, or you could forget. I made sure I got the selection emailed also, so much easier. We have fulfilled our obligation, but are still part of the club. Every once in a while they have some really good deals.

If i remember right, buying the movies through the club was more expensive than buying them in the store. but that was awhile ago...I haven't looked lately.

It depends. As others said, w/the shipping and handling, it adds up. But, if you have no DVDS and you really want to jump start your collection, you join, do the committment, and quit. Do the math to see if it is worth it. Do you really want all those movies? You can also borrow from the library. The library system is fabulous, you can request things from just about anywhere if the branch you use the most does not have what you want. I also found that the Disney DVDs in the stores are not that cheap -- $20 usually for new releases.

You can call in for the monthly committment, or do it online, or send in the mail thing. I was bad about that, and was glad to quit when it was over. I was not impressed with the offers when you became a premium member. (fulfilled your commitment.)

I don't have any experience with the club and have wondered about it myself.

I did just want to pipe up that, we borrow DVD's from our library. You can borrow them for free for a week at a time, and usually i can renew them on line for another week. It has really helped me to cut down on the clutter in my house. I have enough stuff with out stacks and stacks of DVD's.
Just my 2 cents

Only do this if you are good at checking your snail mail and replying right away (you can reply on line, but the notice only comes in the regular mail). We joined and a couple of times the notice got misplaced in our usual mayhem. They automatically send out the DVD if you don't respond. I could return it, but I had to pay the shipping. I just finished out my obligation and cancelled because I couldn't stand the annoyance.

Hi Ali,

We belong to the Disney Movie Club and we love it. After we fulfilled our membership we continued the membership. We love all the family friendly movies you can purchase. Best of all we don't have to go to the store and look for a movie. We look at a catalog and choose what we want and it comes right to us. We have a lot to choose from on those cold winter nights we spend cuddling on the couch watching a movie.

Hi Ali,

I joined the DMC last year and regret it. I got roped in by the fact you got all those movies for so cheap. When it catches up with you later is when you have to commit to buy 6 DVD's at full price of $27.00 when you know you could get it for $16 or so when it first comes out. Great savings in the beginning when you purchase the movies but when you have to fill that committment at a later date it empties your wallet! I have 2 more that I am required to order and then I will be terminating my membership. Some may like it but I would just rather pay a lesser price for DVD's all year long then only save 1x when ordering in the beginning! A.

I have been considering doing it, too. I just got an offer for 5 DVD's at 99 cents each! If I pay by credit card then I get all 5 for $1! Then I can by one more at $11.95 and one at $8.95 and only have to buy two more in two years. That's 7 DVD's for $21.90. Then I just need to buy two more at regular price plus shipping. I'd guess that would probably run me no more than $25 each which would be 9 DVD's at under $72 dollars. How could you pass that up?! I'm still undecided, though.

Anyway, I read everyone else's comments and the recurring issue is that the auto ship if you don't respond. I used to belong to Columbia House and they would do the same thing with CD's. However, I went to their website and there was an option to cancel the auto ship so I'd check out Disney's site to see if that might be an option and then you won't have to worry about that extra factor.

Hey, Ali. Excellent question, as I'm considering joining. I think, with the cheap intro price, then 4 more over 2 years, we will be doing it. There are a few DVD's we don't have, and I'm sure we'll find others. We're going to check it out online tonight after the kids go to bed. I think it's just one of those commitment issue things. Either you are good at it or not. Good luck with your decision, Just remember, it is your decision to make, if you don't think you can remember to respond on movies you don't want, it'll bite ya in the rear. :)
