Have you thought about Wall? I have a friend who works for them. Wall has also been used by Extreme Makeover Home Edition for a build in Keller.
My husband and I are thinking of having a house built. I was just wondering if any of you ladies had ever used Tilson and if so what was you experience, good or bad? TIA

My husband and I talked to them. They boast about building houses the way you want them but everytime we asked about changing something in the model the sales woman would say, 'well, why WOULDN'T you want that' or 'well that would change everything so they can't do that' and so on. We wanted stained cement floors to which she gave another bogus reason as to why we shouldn't do that.......so long story short we got together with a blue print company, designed OUR dreamhouse and met a builder/contractor named Gerald Daniels. He was and is the answer to our prayers. He is building us an awesome home at a price that we can afford! *oh, and it beats tilsons prices by a mile!! Unlike so many of the other builders that we spoke with. Gerald builds QUALITY homes that are actually attainable. We are not working with a huge budget, we have 4 kids, and this is a dream come true. Everyday we see progress and it is sooooooooooooooo much better than we ever dreamed we would ever have!!! We are in final stages now and he was true to his word that it would be built between 60 and 90 days! Unbelievable. We couldn't be more pleased. His contact info is ###-###-#### (cell). Tell him you heard that he was building James and J. Pierce's house. I hope you explore your options and meet him. We would not have been able to build the house we wanted with Tilson but we are getting everything we ever wanted and so much more with Gerald. I really think it's his ministry, to help people achieve home constuction without overcharging and making it out of reach. He has been a huge blessing to our family and in two weeks we will be moving into to this house that we have dreamed about for 13 years. God is good!! I hope this helps.

I'm not familiar with this builder either, but I've had 2 homes built and learned quite a few things.
- Check out the BBB. It's a free service available to consumers that I've found invaluable. You might also do a Google or Yahoo search to see what other people have posted online.
- Stay on top of the entire process, keeping detailed notes and paperwork. I kept everything in a binder, making tabs for each section of the process. There are lots of decisions you have to make and you need to keep up with them.
- Take digital photos. We visited the site at least once a week while they were building, taking pictures each time. I can't tell you how invaluable these photos are in getting things corrected that the builder screws up. My husband also blogged and posted the photos on a site we shared with family and friends. Again, when things weren't as noted, they were corrected to our specifications. These same photos came in handy when trying to locate internal wiring within the walls. We knew where everything was because of the photos!
- Don't be intimidated by the builder or staff. They're in this to make a buck, and this is your investment. When they tried to stick us with something we didn't request, we fought back. Until you sign the dotted line, it's their house (and liability) not yours. Make them fix things to what you want and take nothing less.
Good luck and best wishes!
Hi D. -- I am not familiar with Tilson and I don't know where you want to build, but you should call Laurie Guido of Guido Custom Homes ###-###-####). She builds true custom homes at reasonable prices; she doesn't have the overhead/markup that you will find with some other builders. She will work with you through every step of the building process to build the home that you want. Laurie is honest & trustworthy and can work with your budget. I would definitely recommend that you call her before you make a decision. Best of luck to you!
STOP...... before you sign any papers at Tilson Homes Sales office, READ and RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. Depending where you want to build, research the area local builders and narrow it down. DO NOT decide over a weekend or 2. Take a year or 2, We're talking out of experience and if we could do it all over again, it would've been a different result. I see your posting is from 2009, so you mostlikely made already a decision, hope it all worked out for you.
My Husband and I had our home built by Tilson 4 years ago. It was a fairly good experience we had a few hiccups in the construction but Tilson was quick to fix the errors and when it was their fault they paid to fix the mistakes. We sat down with the person at Tilson and changed many things on one of their standard home blue print. I completely changed the layout of the laundry room and gust bathroom. We also have stained concrete floors and love them. There was a problem with the company that did the scoring on the floor and Tilson stepped in and paid for their mistake. Again we liked our experience but that was several years ago now. Good Luck
my husband builds homes, i don't know where you are located but you can contact terry pittcock at ###-###-#### he may know about those builders. good luck. he builds anything, has over 30 years experience. his cards say have tools will travel
We've custom built 2 homes in the Plano/Allen area and I've never heard of that builder. It does NOT mean they are a bad builder. We've been n the area 21 years and it Ithis is a new name to us.
Whatever you do..... Make sure you have detailed paperwork, stay onsite and on top of what is happening during the process.
During both builds, either husband or myself was onsite most of the tome to oversee. Even with that, some things are missed as in quality of products installed. It is imperative to be there watching and supervising what goes on.
Not to be mean but it is your $$$. So we we watched closely to see where they cut corners. They do and will cut corners that will cost you later. We've practically rebuilt our home ad we did the first build we had. I know it is not because we are too picky ( we are) but we watch for functional issues.
Good luck! Stay on them. You should be ok. On Fridays, I had cases of drinks for the guys working here.
Hello. Tilson built our home 4 years ago. We were very impressed with their standards and quality of work. Additionally, they were very easy to work with. The only negative thing I can say is that we discovered a crack in our foundation when we installed wood floors a few months ago. We called and someone came out immediately to fill in the crack so the flooring guys could finish. They also took photos for warranty. From what we understand, the cracks are common because they use tension cables to stabilize the foundation. The cracks usually occur where the cables run. The only problem we have had with service is the tile guy. He promised 6 months ago he would fix the grout that cracked in our entry way due to the crack in the foundation. He was also supposed to fix some tile that cracked in our shower but we can't get very good reponse. To be honest, we have slacked off on harassing him lately but will probably start again in January. We have a neighbor down the street that used them as well. They have had a few minor repairs but from what I know, Tilson has been very responsive for them as well. Good luck! I think with any builder you find, there will be good and bad things.
My mother-in-law used Tilson to build her home in rural Bonham, TX and she was very pleased. The project manager kept all of the crews involved on time and made sure that all of the work was done well. She had that home built in 2001 and hasn't had a moment's trouble with it. She is very pleased with Tilson and I think she would opt to use them again if she ever decided to buy another empty lot.
