Spankings - nah.
Discipline and respect...yes.
Guess some see parenting only as the biological result of pregnancy and not the forming of successful human being.
Just saw this on facebook with a friend saying that this is the reason that this is the reason kids need spankings. I could only make it through about 4 minutes of before I just couldn't watch the video anymore. It made me cry. Posting the link in my SWH.

@JustM, it's a video of an elderly bus monitor and she is surrounded by taunting middle schoolers calling her every name in the book, flicking her, telling her how fat she is, how sweaty and disgusting she is, etc. She's crying silently the whole time. Terrible, terrible stuff.

I actually wonder if the children who have been spanked are the ones who are the bullies.
First, this has nothing to do with spanking. Generally kids misbehaving is because of no DISCIPLINE. Discipline can be achieved whether there is spanking, or not. Not only that, there has been dozens and dozens of studies to show the harm of spanking...and not one has found benefits. I bet you'll find plenty of those kids were spanked. You'll probably also find, that most are not effectively disciplined, their parent's are bullies, spew hate, or are just not really invested in their kids.
No matter, this is just pure hate. The parents dropped the ball somewhere, and I think the least of their worries is spanking.
The kids need to be written up and put off the bus permanently, possibly suspended from school.
This is harassment and cruelty and this is her work environment.
My son's bus driver is a sweet lady - a lot like this lady - and I've got to tell you - she does not put up with anyone saying 'boo' to her on her run - makes no difference the age of the kids.
Anything less than model behavior and the kids parents get to deal with their transportation problems.
Our entire school system and board say bus service is a privilege, not a right.
Her school system needs to support her in this.
I work with middle school kids... they can be really horrible! We try to stop any of that behaviors when we hear them in the classroom or hallway, but they can be extremely sneaky about it.
I "dressed down" a 7th grader when he was talking how he was behaving on the school bus toward the driver... who happens to be a TEACHER at my middle school..... I didn't even take him out of the room to do it privately, I did it in front of the other kids. I should have written him up... but I did also tell the teacher he was mocking.... and he also kept a very close eye on him for the rest of the year.
Mob mentality.... one kid does something, and others join in. I haven't listened to the whole thing, but I sure wish someone else would have spoken up telling the kids to just shut up!
I would be ashamed if I heard my child's voice on that - and I would take my child to counseling.
These children are our future...pretty pathetic, eh?
Doesn't any of that constitute hate speech?? Those kids should be charged with a hate crime!
ETA: Doesn't the bus driver realize this is going on? I'd pull the bus over, IMMEDIATELY, call their school and bring them all back to school and call their parents.
How awful! Those kids are monsters!
What the heck is wrong with our families and lack of parenting skills these days? Don't parents teach kids to respect elderly people?
This is outright vulgar and legitimate harrassment. I hope the bus monitor sues the kids and families and I hope the school evicts those kids from the bus and make them walk to and from school. And I seriously doubt even those consequences will be enough punishment.
Seriously, what is wrong with our society? Pretty stupid of the person of who uploaded the video, but good for proof in doling out discipline.
Shame, shame, shame on such scum of the earth, IMHO.
I read about it but, could not bring myself to watch it. I cried just reading it. I can't get over how mean people can be. If that were one of my children I would be mortified, heartbroken, scared, mad........and the list goes on! I pray that I have taught my children not only to have respect for everyone but, to stand up to those that do not! Where was the bus driver while this was going on? Why did no one step in and stand up for her? It just breaks my heart!
So happy that someone started the fund to send her on a vacation. Now maybe she can quit that job! As for the children, I hope the school AND their parent's hand over a "just" punishment.
I don't necessarily know if this is the reason kids need spankings and I am a proponent of spanking.
What I think kids need is to learn is respect for all adults. Someone on here asked the other day of a kid should be able to reprimand an adult - it is just that type of behavior (kids thinking they can reprimand an adult) that allows kids to believe they can treat an adult this way.
Kids need to be taught to respect all adults and to do what they are told by adults unless they really believe that what they are asked to do is either harmful/dangerous or illegal.
I also see a lot of posts on here about small children hitting their parents. Again, this is all about respect. A child should be taught from infancy to respect their parents. If they are, then that child will never raise a hand to their parent or any other adult/elder. People who don't teach respect because they don't want to crush the child's spirit are breeding our next generation of bullies and elder abusers!
I saw the headline and knew I didn't want to turn on the video. She came on TV to talk about it - so many people wrote her kind words and said nice things to her afterwards, and she talked about that. People have been sending her money to take a great vacation with - I think that is just awesome!
Even knowing this story, I'm still not going to watch the video. It will bother me too much.
Dawn
I saw it last night but did not watch the video. Just the look on her face was enough. There is a story on the Chicago Tribune site about her speaking out about it--haven't read it yet though. . Many years ago, my husband was a bus driver. The kids were middle school and he could not believe the way they would act. It was like one kid got on the bus but then a totally different one was actually on it--totally different attitude. Any parent that says their kid didn;t not do that (on the video of course) should have to ride the bus everyday for a month. That is about 20 days. Embarrassment for the student and inconvenience for the parent. I agree with Cheryl that kids need to learn to respect others and it does not stop just because mommy or daddy is not around.
THe bus minitor... yeah. The police are looking into it, and someone set up a donation site for her and raised over $200,000.
Apparently this was abnormal behavior for these kids.... not that that excuses them, this was inexcuseable. A number of the parents have apologized for the kids, made the kids apoligize and are disciplining thier children at home.
It really is sad that this sort of thing happen....

my ex drove a school bus while he was in school in a very bad area and had a 5 year olf threaten to shoot him, had kids fight on the bus and do much worse and the teachers couldnt do anything about it
