Have You Used a Personal Trainer?

I signed up for 6 one hour sessions and am already seeing good results. If you have hired one in the past how long did you keep going? I know everyone is different but I was just wondering how long most people kept trainers.

What can I do next?

My husband is a real personal trainer, as in went to college for fitness science:) so I've been seeing one for 9 years. Lol he helped me loose almost 80 pounds that I gained while pregnant with my first child.

I had a bad experience. I went to one and pushed me so hard that I literally threw up (TMI), and he tried to make me keep going. I could not get my body temperature to go down. I won't go to one at a big gym again. Maybe a trainer at a women's gym, but not at a big one, no way!

I tried one for eight weeks, one hour a week. I liked it, saw some results, but it was too expensive and I really didn't have the time...

I've kept mine for a long time. Like several years.

When I joined the gym years ago, a few sessions came with the package. I never expected to continue so long, but I really benefit from the one-on-one thing, from working with someone who knows what I need, who can really show me what to do (I'm a slow learner), and who can keep me accountable.

Happily, both trainers I've had have became my friends. They were (and are) great people. If I'd had reservations about my trainer, I would not have continued; hopefully I would have looked for someone else.

My first personal trainer was just out of college; my daughter and I were his first clients! When he left to return to school, he connected me with another trainer who he thought would work with me best. I'm still with him; he has left the employ of the gym and has started a business of his own. I go to his little gym for the sessions and do my cardio workouts and classes at the big gym.

This personal training is my luxury - my "for me" thing. I don't do massages, pedicures, cruises, nights out with the girls, or fancy clothes. I'm working on staying healthy.

@mama2cade: The same thing happened to me at a chain gym!!

So yeah, only one session.

Like therapist, I think you will "know" when to cut a trainer loose.

I did for about 8 sessions.
I had already been working out for years so he gave me a kick start with
some new exercises.
I really toned up even more than I was.
I took what he showed me & paired it with what I already knew so I could
continue to workout but gain better results.
It was expensive but worth it at the time.
Now that I'm married w/kids I would just continue what I already knew & work out consistently and hard.
