Having a Baby with PCOS

Hi moms! I conceived twins while going through fertility treatments and hated the experience. I never want to do fertility treatments again. I am wondering though if any of you have been diagnosed with mild PCOS and have gone on to have a normal pregnancy after going through fertility. Also, has anyone with PCOS tried acupuncture as a therapy? Does anyone know of any natural remedies? I would love to try for a little girl, but I am okay with my two boys if it means I have to go back to fertility meds. No way is that going to happen again.

Hi Kim... I was diagnosed with PCOS after 4 years of trying to conceive. I went through months of testing and procedures and right before it came down to getting on Meds, etc. I pulled out. I was so tired of being a guinea pig, I just stopped it ALL. I started using ovulation prediction methods, aroma Therapy of lighting the incense of Lilly of the valley before and during intercourse, also using a pillow under my hips after intercourse to keep your pelvis elevated for 20 minutes after. Most importantly I started taking not just my prenatal vitamins but the fertility vitamins from GNC, as well as diet and exercise to get healthy. in a matter of 3 months I got pregnant with my first. After she was born I got on the lowest dose of birth control and stayed on that till my daughter was 18 months. From what we had heard from everyone including our doctors, it is much easier to get pregnant the second time around. Well, got off birth control in February, started all my vitamins again and got about loosing weight and getting healthy again and got pregnant in May. I could have gone through all sorts of serious things and chose not to, and it paid off in the end. Trust your body, especially since you said you have mild PCOS. Go for it! My friend who was also diagnosed with PCOS went as far as taking the fertility drugs for about 2 months and when her body was tired of it she also gave up. Started taking care of herself and she also got on the GNC fertility vitamins and she got pregnant also within a few months of starting. So moral is, trust in your body, make it as healthy as it can be and just try. As you said if it doesnt work out then you still have your two blessings to fill your life. Good luck!

Hello,
I have PCOS also but wasn't diagnosed until after my second child. I saw Dr. O'dea in LA he is an excellent doctor that could help regulate your hormones and help you to get pregnant. He is not a fertility doctor, just a hormone doctor but he is on the cutting edge and really takes good care of his clients. If you want more info let me know.

Count your blessings! I went through 3 years of fertility and never conceived. I'm sorry, but I just had to say that.

Hi Kim,
I was diagnosed with PCOS but it wasn't the classic case. I did not have the insulin resistence and I wasn't overweight. MY first child was conceived using Clomid and IUI. We were very lucky and got pregnant the first time. Our second was a different story, we tried 8 IUIs and all different kinds of drugs and were unsuccessful. But much to our surprise I got pregnant on my own 5 months after stopping all the fertility treatments. I can't say that I did anything different during that time but know it was a miracle and we were thrilled. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Kim,

I have a friend with PCOS who had a baby without resorting to fertility treatment. She went on a diet/food program called "food combining" that is supposed to even out blood sugar. She lost about 50 pounds and got pregnant within 2 months of losing the weight. I know several other women with PCOS who did similar diets and had their cycles return after not having had cycles for years. While I realize that strict dieting is a huge pain in the butt, it is a really low risk thing to try and has other benefits too - women with PCOS are at extremely high risk for diabetes. There seems to be a huge link between PCOS, being overweight, insulin and hormone problems and being infertile.

Good luck!

I too had twins with PCOS....but without fertility treatments. I don't know if you would consider this a normal pregancy because it was twins....but they were spontaneous. It can happen. For me my weight & my sugars were under control. I was living on the South Beach Diet & was a size 4. In my opinion, it was kind of like the perfect storm. Good luck!
