VBAC- Vaginal Birth After Caesarian is becoming more and more common, but you have to make sure that your doctor is willing to do it. Some don't like to, even though it's really very safe. Natural birth is giving birth without any drugs at all, so you have to be careful to use the right terms when you ask.
I had a VBAC with my youngest daughter after a C-section with my twins, and it was such a fantastic experience! I did have an epidural, but it wears off quickly after you give birth so I was up and walking less than an hour after she was born, and in the meantime I was able to sit up in bed, nurse her, watch her get her first bath, etc. It was a busy time! The recovery was so much easier than from the C-section. I went home in just a little over 24 hours and felt totally back to normal in a little less than 2 weeks.
A couple of things about the VBAC- for one thing, whether you can do it depends partly on why you had the C-section with your first. If the doctor expects the same complications that caused you to have it the first time, then it's likely you won't be able to do VBAC. Also, because there is a very small risk of rupture at the old incision site, they don't do anything to speed up labor such as give you pitocin or manually break your water (if it doesn't happen on it's own, which is fairly common.) So, it can make for a VERY long labor. Like I said, I had the epidural so I was comfortable, but everyone was wondering if the baby was ever going to come out!
VBAC is definitely worth doing and so much easier and less painful than C-section, but just discuss it with your doc and make sure it's right for you.
Good luck!
