Hi lovely Mamas! I need your help & suggestions please. I'm having 2 wisdom teeth pulled in a week, along with a cavity being filled & a cleaning. I'm doing all this using IV sedation. Anyway, I have had my other 2 wisdom teeth pulled before & they bled A LOOOOOOOOOOT afterwards. (Like 9-10 hours). So, do you know of any super awesome tricks that will help minimize bleeding?

You should know, I am not on any medications or anything that will make my blood unusually thin & I don't have a clotting disorder or anything like that. I once heard something about a tea bag really works. Do you wet it first? Hot or cold water? Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. Wish me luck!

Thanks again

So What Happened?

Well, it's been a couple weeks since I've had my wisdom teeth pulled and it went GREAT! They didn't hurt at all after. My jaw was a little stiff from holding it open for so long but that was it. I slept the whole way home & by the time I got home, the bleeding was done. It really was one of the easiest trips I've ever had. Thanks again to all the moms that gave me tips. I was armed & ready with tea bags just in case!

hi. first, my sympathy. Next ,eat brocoli, it's full of vitamin K,which helps with clotting. The tea bag really works. Soak it in cool water at first then colder as tolerated. Place the tea bag over the holes and gently close your mouth around it. Regular tea works best because the tannic acid causes the blood vessels to constrict so it stops bleeding. An ice bag for your cheek will help too. Be sure to wrap it in a soft towel so you don't accidentally cause cold damage.
Best of luck to you.

A.,

Get a regular black tea and wet it with cold water. Put it in your mouth on the raw area and it helps the bleeding stop. Then, you want to go sit down quietly so your body can start the healing process.

Best wishes,

Hi, when my baby was little and learning to walk the dr said use a steaped tea bag to stop the bleeding. We never had to use one, so i don't know if it really works. Hope that helps and good luck!

The tea bag helps but is awkward, you just wet it with room temp water and keep it in your mouth near the effected area but this is usually done when a infection is present or you are having a hard time healing. Ice is your best bet and DO NOT SMOKE or USE A STRAW.The sucking will make the blood clot come out and a DRY SOCKET is worse than a Migrain. It is best to stay on liquids for the first day if you can and not move around much.Be sure to rinse your mouth well after eating anything with Salt water, that will help prevent a infection.
I hope you don't end up with black eyes like I did.
Maybe your Dr. can put in stitches so you don't bleed so much, they have self disolving ones that melt away as you heal up.
Good Luck , I sure wouldn't want to go through it again.

I had all 4 of mine out at the same time a couple of years ago. They seemed to bleed a lot also. The only thing that worked for me was first aid gauze squares. Roll them up like tubes and bite down. Basically, just pressure for a couple of hours.

Ice packs and cold will slow the bleeding down.

I always heard about the tea bags, but didn't try that when I had mine out. BUT I have heard of putting a little Clove oil on a piece of gauze and keeping that back there where the teeth were pulled.

The only other suggestion I have is with pain management. A nurse friend of my mom suggested this, and it worked great! Take a zip-lock bag, put in 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water, and seal it and put it in the freezer. It won't freeze hard, and you can put it on the side of your face. I actually had about 2-3 of these bags in the freezer so I could rotate them.
