Okay Moms, I have got to shed 30 pounds and I have been dieting, exercising, watching calories, carbs, fats, you name it and I have done it. But...I can't seem to get this weight off. I went through an awful divorce, got depressed and the weight just piled on. Anyway...my question is has anyone done the HCG shots with the 500 calorie a day diet? My hairdresser has been doing it and has had huge success. I am reading the book "The Weightloss Cure" now and have found a doctor who will prescribe the shots, but I just need some feedback from any of you that have tried it and what were your results pros and cons.

Please don't tell me the "there is no quick fix" story or the just exercise and watch what you eat cliche because I have done that. I need a jump start to get the lbs. off. Thanks in advance to any of you who have tried this and give me your results.

So What Happened?

Just wanted to update you. I have been on the HCG shots for 6 days and have lost a total of 8 pounds. However! I did not do the full 2 days of gorging and boy am I regretting it! I have been pretty hungry and I am hoping this will settle down. I have heard it takes about 12 days to really feel the effects. I am thrilled with the loss of inches and the changes in my body structure. I will keep you posted as the time goes on. Thank you for the words, advice and precautions. I had to have something to jump start the weight to come off. Once the 40 days are over it is up to me to continue the life change to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis.

My mother in law did 2 rounds of this. She was disappointed with her results. I think she may have lost 10 pounds total. She has had several friends that had success. She did not have any trouble with hunger only eating 500 calories. At some points she had to make herself eat the calories. She felt good the entire time (except for some migraines at the beginning - which she regularly has anyway). She was not sluggish or out of energy.
Hope that helps

My daughter has lost 12 pounds by just counting Fat grams-no more than 15 grams a day. 500 calories a day is starving-don't do it that way! Also walk if you can or do some exercise. Good Luck!

500 calories is way too low of a count -- you'll lose weight but it'll destroy your metabolism so that when you start eating normally again, the lbs will pack on and faster than ever! have you tried the south beach diet? it has a 2 week plan that jumpstarts your weightloss where you avoid certain carbs (this way is much healthier than atkins) and you lose up to 15 lbs then gives you a more moderate weight loss plan for the rest of the weight you want to lose.

It seems like about 10 women at my church are on this diet right now and my mom is looking into it as well. I have concerns for sure. I am an RN as well as a group fitness instructor. It kind of sounds like you're gonna do what you're gonna do, so I won't try to talk you out of it. I will tell you though, that none of the ladies I know lost 30 pounds. Maybe 10 or 12 pounds. And it seems like they've all now switched to a low carb diet. Is that part of the whole HCG plan or did they just quit and switch to something else? Anyway....I do know for sure that if you restrict yourself to 500 calories a day you WILL lose weight. But you most likely will have absolutely no energy to live your life and will therefore not be able to stick to it for a long period of time. As far as injecting yourself with hormones...I know I wouldn't do it. I've had a lot of trouble with my thyroid after my 3rd kid and I am NOT going to do anything to screw with my hormone levels or metabolism especially now that I'm in my 30s. Best of luck!!!

PS~if you do it and it doesn't work, message me for a work out plan!

I am actually surprised as well, by the people advocating this diet! 500 calories a day is just not smart! This would be a "crash" diet and puts you in starvation mode. This is not a sensible lifestyle plan that will help you in the long run. You only get one body - treat it well - with real food and exercise.

Good luck - I am not here to bash you so that is all I am going to say.

Ok- I don't know why these moms are saying to do it. 500 calories is STARVING yourself and it is extremely dangerous.
Duh! It's going to make you lose weight. Why not do the 500 calorie donut diet? Or heck- go crazy and so the all-lard 1000 calorie diet. You'll lose weight. But at what cost?

If you are wanting to lose weight for only aesthetic, vain reasons- that will work regardless of side effects, then do it. But more than likely, you will gain it back. Do you know what the grapefruit diet, adkins diet, weight watchers, etc have in common? The average calorie consumption is 1200 Calories- less than you need to maintain your weight.

The safer, more permanent way to lose the weight is go to Cooper clinic (or a similar place), have then test your oxygen intake to see what you need to Maintain your weight, and then subtract 400-500 calories from that number. You will lose ~2 lbs a week safely and develop a lifestyle change that will last, obviously, a lifetime.

If you want a ridiculously unhealthy way to lose the weight, that teaches you nothing in the process and develops no habits, then do the hcg diet (or my custom "butter and lard diet" I just made up that will work).
But if I were you (and your kids- who watch you), I would choose the thousand year old, ONLY proven completely safe diet called "diet and excercise".

Don't listen to these other moms. Please.

The Dr. TED Diet at Plano Aesthetics (Dr. Jeffrey Caruth) has done wonders for so many patients. This is in an HCG-based/500 calorie diet and sounds like it may be right for you. Many patients lose 30 or so pounds, plus lower their cholesterol/high blood pressure and most importantly, learn how to get in control of their eating again. They get their lives back. I wish you luck on your weight loss goals. You'll do great!

Here's the web page for the Dr. TED Diet at Plano Aesthetics.

I did the HCG diet after my 3rd son... Much like yourself I hit a patch of depression since we lost him an hour after he was born and the weight would just not come off.

Needless to say the diet works, I did not gain any weight back until recently, but I am again pregnant. I kept the weight off for almost a year, and was so happy with it. The only thing is that I did not lose 30 lbs like they advertise, I lost 20 the 1st month then 2 months later another 20.

Clear your social schedule because it does not work with the diet.

Cons - 1. you are so lightheaded in the beginning that it is not even funny. 2. initially you are starving, but you can eat a lot if you concentrate on the veggies. 3. its a lot of work planning.

Best of luck!

HCG shots take months to take effect. 500 calories a day is starving yourself. Once you're off, you'll gain all back plus a lot more.

Hi P., I have completed the first 6 weeks (aka as round 1) of the HCG diet and am thrilled with the results -- lost 26 lbs and have maintained the weight loss for 5 weeks now. I'm preparing to go another 6 weeks (round 2) of the HCG program. I'm using the HCG as a cream rather than the shots but it all works the same. You start using the cream and for 2 days you eat as much food as you possibly can and then on the 3rd day - end of 6 weeks you only eat 500 calories -- it's a very specific diet as you know.....stick to it and you'll be very pleased. The most difficult time are the first 2 weeks and getting your mind and body accustom to the 500 calories. I didn't lose my appetite like some people do but I was able to function and stay with the plan. I have a son and husband who ate differently than I did and we just all made it work. After 2 wks, my appetite diminished drastically but I was very tired and weak some days. I work out of the home full time but again -- it was manageable. My husband has been so excited for me that he's doing the HCG program with me when I start again in a week or so. I'm going through the FEM Centre here in Ft Worth to order the creams and work with a dr. They are great. Read Dr. Simeon's protocol -- you can find it online. It's only 58 pages or so and really helps you understand the plan. God bless!

I am currently on this diet and have seen good results. It is a difficult diet because of the calorie restictions and you have to eat certain foods. For the most part, I would recommend it.

you can just lose weight eating just the 500 calories and skip the shots. Once you hit your goal weight tho, it usually comes back on since it's not "normal" to only eat 500 calories per day. I did this several years ago, it was expensive, I lost the weight, but gained it back. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Why don't you try Wellbutrin (look it up) - it's an antidepressant but years ago was used for successful weightloss. I took it for my depression and was amazed to see that I was losing weight. I didn't know why - so i did research on it and found that out. Talk to your physician before trying the HCG shots.

Argh it is so frustrating isn't it? I'm stuck at 20 lbs that I have wanted to lose the last 2 years.

Haven't known anyone who has done the diet you mention but I would worry that your nutrient intake would be too low on 500 calories. Were you planning to supplement with vitamins, etc.?

Good luck and please let us know how it goes if you try it! Would love to hear. Be careful though - imho your long-term health is the most important thing to consider.

Have you ever tried Weight Watchers? I'm doing it now and have lost 21 lbs in 21 weeks and I know it will stay off. It doesn't sound like a lot of weight fast but I lost about 6 lbs the first month and 6.5 lbs the second, and that was during the holidays! I kinda hit a plateau for 4 weeks but then lost 2.8 lbs the next week. I haven't been working out with it yet but now that the weather is getting warmer, I'll be doing that more. There is an on-line version and the meetings and right now they have free registration and you can attend a meeting without signing up first. Please check it out.

the just exercise and watch what you eat is no cliche - it's TRUE, it's just hard, which is why most people don't want to do it. everyone says they "tried it and it didn't work for me", but unless you are a one in a million true genetic freak of nature - that is simply not the case. go see a physician, a legitimate one, and have some extensive labwork done to be sure there is not a hormonal or metabolic problem. beyond that - eat right and exercise for a LONG period of time, not just a few weeks. your "weight" will stay the same or even increase initially b/c you will be building muscle while burning fat. yo yo dieting may get weight off, but it WILL NOT keep it off, and you will destroy your vital organs in the process. there is no quick fix. and i would NEVER NEVER NEVER inject myself with HCG(do you even know what HCG is???) or do a 500 calorie a day diet. if you choose to go that route, as frighteningly dangerous to your health as it is, do the 500 calories but skip the shots. good luck to you.

I haven't personally done it but the male nurse that took care of my son in the PICU at Children's Medical Center Dallas did it...I was quite astounded that he would do something so contrary to healthy dieting being as intelligent about nursing as he was (no disrespect intended). Anyway, he did lose 25 lbs in the first 20 days (that was where I saw him in the process at a dr's visit at the hospital one day) but when I saw him again less than three months later, he had put it all back on. You obviously are going to lose weight doing this type of program but I don't think it will stay off and like others said, I would seriously worry about damage to your body, my guess is you would lose a ton of muscle (don't know that for a fact but seems rational). Be careful if you choose to do it.

Sounds awful. I am currently doing Naturally Slim and am having great success. And the best part - I can eat whatever I want and don't have to buy any products, take pills or shots. It teaches you to change how you eat for a total lifestyle change. You should look into it.
