We are having a "Healthy Fun and Fitness Night" at my daughter's elementary school for students and their families. We would love to cover all kinds of subjects like food, exercise, safety, skin care, vitamins, anything. We have a Zumba instructor and a Karate class coming. We want to make stress balls out of balloons and sand, have samples of healthy snacks and maybe some hula hoop, jump rope, basketball competitions.
What we need help with is
ideas where to get donations from (free stuff really draws people in so drawings, prizes etc)
ideas for healthy affordable snacks ( we also want to have examples of fun and healthy cold lunches for kids)
some fun activities and anything that comes to mind, we appreciate any ideas and suggestions
Thanks!

I'd stop at a dentist's office to see if they'd like to donate toothbrushes and cards, maybe dr.'s office for first aid kits, etc.

A lot of gyms or bounce house places are willing to give away a free personal training session or free bounce session. The karate school, or a dance school would probably do something like that too. Mary Kay people would most likely donate a gift basket.

My kids love pita pockets. You can stuff them with salad, meat and cheese.

Make the apple smile snacks, or the celery boats/ants on a log) (you know, raisins and peanut butter on a celery).

Homemade granola or trail mix. Homemade granola balls with ground flax seed, lots of recipes online. Whole Foods/ Central Market sells tons of these healthy snacks.

Homemade fruit leather.

Activities, have some freeze dance, face painters, balloon artists, cake walk (but they get a healthy yummy treat), 3 legged race, obstacle course,

These are a huge hit with kids, and healthy too:

Contact your local gyms, holistic practitioners, organic foods places, taw kwon do, karate, fitness trainers, etc. and ask for donations. Make sure the donation request is written on the school's letterhead with their TAX ID# and all the information you can get:

Dear Trader Joe's:

Our school, Bull Run Elementary, is having a health and fitness program on January 31, 2012.

We would like to feature healthy products and healthy ways to our families here at Bull Run. We are asking for a donation for this event.

Thank you.

Bull Run PTA

Write it however you want or include whatever you want - but go to the gyms, etc. and talk with the managers - have the letter in hand so they can fill out their information for the donation(s). Many gyms will offer a free membership (if you are having a drawing or a silent auction for items). Organic food stores will usually offer something as well.

GOOD LUCK!!

We had something similar a few months ago. There were health related businesses who had tables at the fair. There was a dentist, the Parks District, Health food stores, a filtered water supply company and many more businesses that are health and fitness related. Most of them brought some freebies like stickers, toothbrushes or food samples. We also had a personal chef come in and do a cooking demo. The gym teachers did some exercises and the Park District did a demo for Zumba and Tennis. I think it was a great success.
You could maybe go to stores in your community and ask for donations. Our fair had some door prizes, but I'm not sure if they were sponsored. But for many events, the community grocery store donates stuff.
