Hi MOMS!!!
I have a 7 week year old daughter, and she has been diagnosed with Acid Reflux and Colic. We have switched her formula four times. We have tried Similac Organic
(AWEFUL), Enfamil, Similac Alimentium, and now we are on Similac Sensitive RS. This one seems to be working we will see. When we went to the pediatrician last week he gave her Zantac, which I am hesitant to give her. M 28 YEAR OLD SISTER IS TAKING ZANTAC it is very very strong! I don’t want to medicate her so young. I did some research; and found some other mothers who approached more homeopathic methods like going to a chiropractor. I have an excellent chiropractor that I have seen off and on for years that we went to go see on Friday. He adjusted her for the Reflux, and I think it worked! Has anyone else tried this? I would love to hear your stories…Thank you

What can I do next?

Hello-
I had that same problem and my son is almost six months. I tried every formula then put him on Soy which was a little better then put him on Zantac, but took him off a month ago but still spits up. He used to sleep 24-7 in the swing but slowly getting him out of that. It has been really hard!! I know!! I hear everything should get better by 6 months, so I am waiting :)

Hi A.,

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. We went through this with my older son (now 3 y/o). His gastroenterologist finally put him on Prevacid at 8 weeks old. He was also on Alimentum. He stayed on both until 1 year old and apparently outgrew it.

We didn't try the homeopathic methods. I can only tell you that Prevacid has been wonderful for both of my boys now. (My 1 year old started taking it a 6 months old.)

Good luck!

Hi A.,

My son also had acid reflux and was colicy.. Brings back bad memories! We didn't go the natural way though. My son's gastroenterologist put him on prevacid until he was 6 months old. We also switched him to Alimentum until he was a year old... It worked out for us doing things that way but everyone has there own opinion.
Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you both.

Both of my boys had severe reflux and started on medication at a month old! We tried several different things and zantac seemed to work best for both of them. It is a mild medication that neither of them minded taking and had no side effects or anything. I also switched their formula to Enfamil AR which made a huge difference. It was a very frustrating condition, it caused colic with my first son and my younger son would cry and scream when he ate because it hurt. The right combination of formula and medication made a huge difference! Keep trying different things until you find what works best for your daughter, it will get better!

Yeah, forget the meds. Shame on your pediatrician to recommend it. Stay with the chiropractor and get with a homeopathic, herbal consultant. Who knows, the formulas could be irritating her system as well. Your local health food store has several knowledgeable people working there. But Keep asking around. Ask your chiropractor first...

so I can tell you that while chiropractic care and craneal sacral massage MIGHT help, if baby is in PAIN then baby needs MEDICINE.

I am sorry to hear about that....I know how you feel. My daughter was 6 weeks old when she ended up at the hospital for a week with neumonia due to aspiration because of her reflux. We did not know. She took medication and the difference was amazing, also, we switched the formula to Enfamil Lipil AR (the one thickened with rice) and fed her often and small amounts; we did 2-4 oz at the time and every 2-3 hrs. And this feeding schedule lasted unti she was 11 months old. Also, I gave her probiotics every day. She was taken of the meds eventually and we used it only as needed. It was scary because of the neumonia. She saw the doctor on Monday and she was fine, just a little cough, lungs were clear, the next morning I was at the ER and she was admittted. She was so little that they wanted to make sure she was better before she was discharged. Because of the neumonia she uses the nebulizer every time she gets sick.
The reflux is mostly gone. She eats everything now and drinks cow milk without a problem. Once your baby starts with solids things will change. Remember to feed her small amounts and often....if you feed her too much at once she is goign to throw up and it will hurt her.
Good luck.

My son had the same diagnosis at 3 weeks old. We lived in NY at the time and the doctor recommended not to change the formula (he was on Isomil), but to add cereal to the bottle. My son was also put on Zantac. I was thrilled that the combination was extremely successful. Zantac is approved for infants and is not the same formula that an adult takes. My son was taken off of Zantac at 10 months. He ended up being an excellent sleeper and I had my sanity back after two weeks.
