Hearing a Voice Call His Name

For the past few days my 6 year old son has been hearing a voice calling his name in the evenings. He will come running out from the bathtub or from his bedroom. This is not occuring until after dark. He cannot settle down to sleep in his room, although my room seems to be "safe" rather I'm in there or not. He is still tired when I have to wake him for school, so I have started the bedtime routine even earlier. He has not been watching any scary movies. Does he need to see the school counselor, a child psychiatrist, a therapist, or is this something that will soon pass? Has anyone else experienced this?

What can I do next?

Does he have a fan on? I remember thinking my bedroom fan said my name over and over with the noise it made when it was on when I was a kid.

Maybe he has special abilities. He may be hearing things that he is to young to understand. Lots of people can see or hear people that are dead.

Children are much more in tune with things out there than we adults are. He may actually be hearing a spirit call his name. Talk with him about it and find out if he has ever experienced anything like this before. Help him feel safe.

Dear Doris,

Read I Samuel 3:1 - 10, and consider reading this story to your son. Tell him that this story is true, and that this shows that God sometimes audibly speaks to children! Tell him that God loves him very much, and protects him, and he should just lay still and think, "God, I'm listening." (or something like that!)

There is a spiritual world out there and that doesn't make someone mentally ill!!! LOL I think of Samuel in the Bible. He heard "voices" 3 times and he thought it was his mentor, Eli, but it wasn't!

We are spiritual beings and some people are more aware than others of it. I have heard of kids being more in touch w/that b/c they haven't been taught to ignore it. I would ask him questions about what he is hearing and you can get a sense of what is going on, if it is made up or not. One of my sons used to have a lot of probs. when he was sleeping. It was almost like he was being harrassed when he was trying to sleep. So, I started praying w/him before he went to sleep and he was a lot better and he would complain if I didn't pray w/him. He doesn't have any problems like that anymore and he is 8.

I wouldn't assume there is something wrong w/your son just yet. Maybe he is just having bad dreams. I would also make sure he knew that you believed him. That way he knows he can trust you and won't feel stupid or belittled.

Blessings,
M.

It's very possible that there is a ghost in your house. We have ghosts that come in and out of of our house all the time. Sometimes we see them and they are just there checking us out other times they'll knock things off of the counter. Children are very open to the spiritual world because they have recently come from it and in their mind there isn't much of a difference between living and non-living. A lot of the times they see them like they see you and me. You will have to set the ground rules basically. You can even make them leave. This one may not be trying to scare your son he maybe just wanting to let him know he's there. Ask your son about what he hears or what it is that is scaring him. Is it hearing his name or is something else said or done that scares him. Don't shrug it off as nothing because that could cause your son to not want to tell you about it even if it continues to happen. My son just turned 7 and he'll be up in his room playing with and having a conversation with a ghost. I can't always see them but he can and he's been doing that since he was about 6 months. It's a gift that God has given him and God may want him to use it for something in the future. Sometimes it's just knowing or feeling like something is going to happen that does. Other times it's more involved or a stronger ability. I've grown up around Mediums and I am a Christian but I have had many experiences myself so if you'd like I can tell you a little more about what you can do.

Certainly you have studied the story of Samuel - how he heard
God calling his name as he lay down to sleep. Study it again.
Don't tell your child that he is not hearing anything or that
he doesn't know what he is talking about.
Have you tried going in his room with him and helping him to
listen? Have you earnestly prayed about this? If God is indeed
speaking to him, you don't want him to miss a single word.
You surely don't want it to pass!
We all ignore that voice all too often. Think back hard and maybe you can remember times in your own life when you ignored
that most important voice. I know I did.

Doris-
Please do not freak out and run your son to a psychiatrist. There is nothing wrong with him. I totally agree with the woman talking about spirits. Most people who pick up on spirits, do it at night. I don't mean "ghosts" even thought it might be. It is more likely a deceased grandparent or loved one that wants to check on him. My grandfather used to turn on my boys' toys at night. It was cute at first then I would get upset and tell my grandfather not to wake them up, I was exhausted. hehe Don't tell him he is crazy or not hearing anything. I always pray with my boys at night to let them know the angels are watching over them. I also encouraged my boys if they acted like they saw a spirit asking them who they see and to tell them hi. If it becomes a problem, simply go into the room yourself and ask the spirit not to talk to your boy since it is scaring him. John Edward the medium is a great person on this subject. He has a tv show and I am sure a website.
Good luck and know God is with you!!

I don't have any direct experience with this... However, it could be a number of things... yes, it could be a signs of mental health problems, but it could also be a by-product of stress, an active imagination, imaginary friends, auditory hallucinations (due to medication? Is you son on any medicine, like for adhd or ritilin for example?) and/or normal childhood development...

Below are some links I found. Most advise to start by talking to your pediatrician before seeking a mental health professional.

Deep breath! Big hug! -Karen

From http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4156/is_20040905/...:

Children who hear voices or chat to an imaginary friend are not a cause for concern. They could be more imaginative, creative and socially able than those who don't. Because "hearing voices" is an indicator of serious mental illnesses in adults, parents are often alarmed if their children show signs of hearing things or people who aren't there. Some psychiatrists have reinforced this idea, arguing that hallucinations in childhood could be a warning sign of future mental health problems. Now research by psychologists is suggesting that susceptibility to such hallucinatory experiences may be a normal feature of the mental world of many young children.

Have you considered that he might really be hearing someone call his name? My sister woke up hearing her voice call out "Maranda." She thought "Did I just talk in my sleep?" and then she heard it again, this time while wide awake. HER VOICE was saying "Maranda, come here." and her daughter replied "Ok, Mommy, coming." She jumped up real fast and went to her daughter!! So, obviously they BOTH heard this voice.

I would not send him to a doctor, but would be asking myself if maybe he has a gift. Small children can be very in tune with the other side (psychic children). I have read alot of books and watch the t.v. show Psychic Children. Talk with your child about the voices before you run him to some doctor.

Hi Doris,
Perhaps your son is hearing the voice of a deceased grandparent or his guardian angel. There are many more children these days who are intuitive. I would not tell him that it didn't happen or that he imagined it. Tell him calmly that when he hears his name being called, answer, "Yes, I'm here. Who is calling me?" Wasn't it Samuel whom God called in the night? He ran to the other tents to answer, only to find that it was God calling him.

When my daughter was 6 yrs old, she was SO afraid of the dark. An angel appeared to her. She described how tall he was, his wings, his voice. He said, "Don't be afraid. It's ok." She has not been afraid since.

Don't be afraid. He is a special child.

Doris, I don't know where you are spiritually but this could be The Lord calling his name. I know some of the other responses talked about it but I wanted to guide you to the passage. It is I Samuel 3:2-10. It is possible that God has a specific special mission for your son and He wants to prepare him for that. You might want to read the scripture to him so he knows that it has happened to someone else. Personally I would read over that scripture and pray and ask God to show me (and my son) what this is and what it means. Also, if you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord & Savior (Romans 10:9&10)I would encourage you to do so and also pray with your son. One last thing, if you are a born-again Christian (accepting Jesus as your Lord & Savior)you can pray over your house (in the name of Jesus), you do not need a priest. You can also have another Christian pray with you. God bless!

Dear Doris, I read all the posts and i think that you got some good advice, and some well (not so good). I agree completely with "Michelle T". I was always a spiritual child, When I was a teenager I had a spirit that would call out my name. ( it turned out to be a demon) but! before you freak out, it could have just as easily turned out to be a ghost ( family deceased member or even stranger) or even angels, it just happened that mine was a demon. I would believe your son that he is hearing someone call his name. and you may not hear it even in the same room at the same time as he hears it. Not everyone is open and therefore not everybody has the ability to "hear". Since that time when I was a teen, i have had many wonderful experiences involving spirits of all kinds! Your son may be gifted, or he may just be that he has not had that world closed off to him. Please don't tell him that it isn't real, then he will lose this gift and as one poster wrote, it may be something he will / would have been called to do when he is older. I would make every effort to find out about this voice/spirit. ask him what it says, and why it frightens him. let him sleep in your room, or better yet sleep in his so you can get a better feel for what is going on. It does concern me that it frighten's him. that would normally mean that the spirit perhaps does not have the best of intentions. Most of the time a "good" intended spirit will not frighten. However some spirits are not very good at understanding us and our reactions. sometimes they don't know that they are spirits, and think that they are still living. so they are confused why we are not happy to see them. some don't know why we are living in their house! It is important that you do not show any fear to your son, and also convince him that you believe him even if you don't. You have heard from enough people here that there is a spirit world, and just because you may not have ever experienced a spirit, doesn't mean that your son hasn't. you want him to trust you and to be able to tell you anything and feel safe in expressing himself to you. don't even talk negativly about it with any one else as he could over hear you, and the trust will be gone. Confront the situation, if he hears it but you don't, maybe you could just speak outloud and tell it that it is frightening your son,and you don't appreciate that, and if you are friendly, then stop scaring him. talk as if there is someone there that hears you, because chances are that they do. because this spirit knows your son's name it is a personal spirit, it acknowledges him. ask the spirit what it wants , who it is, and why it is there. I would say a prayer of protection before engaging in confrontation. you might be surprized how powerful a dark spirit can be. your son has a gift don't squelch it. blessings to you and your family, and your household.

That happend to me, twice at work & twice at home. Scared the PANTS off me! You probably have a spirit in your house wanting to get in touch w/either you or your son. I wouldn't worry about it unless things start happening like stuff getting thrown on there own, etc. What I did was, the last time it happend at my house, I just stopped, turned around & said out loud, "look, I know you're here...I don't know why or who you might be but please do not speak to me again & please do not show yourself, it scares me. If you must be here then fine but please just don't talk to me or show yourself." and that was the end of it but things started getting moved around, two certain photos getting turned the opposite way all the time...one was on my dresser & the other was on the mantle & I know the cat didn't do it, nothing else was disturbed whereas if the cat did get on the dresser or mantle, things wudda been knocked off plus she know's better & of course my cat was doing strange things like follow things while looking up (and no, there were no bugs in the house...I checked), desperately trying to get into rooms that were closed; I heard noises at night like footsteps & papers rustling in the same closed off room (my cat sound asleep at the same time so I knew it wasn't her); doorknobs rattling, kept feeling like a prescense in my home ya know. Felt someone tucking my feet in (I know you don't believe me probably but these things DID happen!) so you probaby have a spirit in the house. If you have a pet or pets, see if they do stuff like stare constantly at the ceiling or reaching up towards the ceiling as if playing w/someone or something although nothing is physically there; following a back & forth pattern along the same area; do you, personally, feel heavier air in the home in certain areas or as if someone is watching you? If that's the case, it may be someone tied to the house itself or the land it sits on or perhaps a loved one who's passed on but I wouldn't take it as "he's crazy" or trying to get attention, he probably really DOES hear that. Best of luck!

Doris,
my 6 year old is imaginative too...he thought for the longest time that there was a monster in the shower...then one night I took him in there...in the dark and he showed me the monster...it was his brother's swim shorts hanging out to dry. We turned on the light together...and he was so shocked when he saw what it really was. I don't think your child needs emotional/psychiatric care...he probably just has a wandering mind that plays tricks on him. Pray with him, sing with him...and talk to him a lot about how important it is to be brave when we're scared. If it starts getting worse...then maybe you should worry. I am not saying you should discount the other ideas you've been told, but maybe it isn't as complicated as all that?

Kids have very vivid imaginations at this age. If he likes the school counselor and feels safe and happy talking to him/her that's probably a good place to start. If not, talk to your doctor about what to do next. Most importantly, don't tell him "there's no voice" or "there's nothing to be scared about" because that is negating his feelings and experience. You want him to trust you and feel safe telling you about both his joys and fears alike. Will he talk about it with you? Do you look for the scary voice together as you are calming him and promising to keep him safe? Whatever this turns out to be, he will emerge certainly braver and more self-assured if you let him be in control of his own solution. You can give him ideas (night-lights, "monster spray" which is a spray bottle with water in it, meditation beads or words to use to calm and focus a mind that may wander to scary things in the dark, etc.) but let him decide what to try, with your help when he needs it.

If you can avoid the school counselor, I would.. I would try and find a child psychologist through your pediatrician. My sister's 5 year old daughter has been going to one now for a few months and it has done wonders... Her daughter loves going, they don't sit with them like they do with adults, they just sit in a room and play with toys and it is a amazing how much a child communicates through play. As your child is playing, the therapist will ask questions that are related to their play.. The therapist will also want to have some sessions with you and Dad.. My sisters daughter was just refusing to sleep through the night in her own room, would wake up every single night scared out of her mind and would end up with M. and Dad.. Anyway, my sister and her husband do not have a strong marriage and it is turning out that my niece can definitely pick up on it and feels very insecure and responsible.. It has done wonders for everyone.. So, I would definitely give it a shot... Good luck. J.

Dorris your son may just be afaird of the dark. I put would put a night light in his room. I would also pray with him. My son would see things not there. I fixed up a bottle of moster killer. It was blue colored water with small amount of vanilla in it. It gave him the control he needed. I also found that some children do hear spirits so I prayed over his room and had other friends also do it. It took about a month but it did stop.

I think he is just looking for more attention or trying to avoid bath and bed time.

I wouldn't worry about about schizophrenia or some sort of mental issue. I am not a doctor but if he really thinks he is hearing voices, I don't think it would just be at night, it would be other times and places. But again, no expert here.

As with most issues, contact your pediatrician. They are educated in emotional issues in children or at least can guide you in the right direction.

I used to have a lot of trouble like that when I was a kid. I made my little sister sleep with me because I was so afraid. My mother had my room blessed and she taught me how to respond to the devil and to evil demons, and I have to say, that only made it worse from my perspective. I don't know where your beliefs lie, but I wanted to respond in light of some of the previous posts. In my opinion, there is nothing like having your room blessed to get rid of spirits to make you think there's a spirit in your room. Probably something about your parents acting like the thing that scares you is real.

Looking back, I think that I was just a very sensitive child. I remember that I became afraid that I would die in my sleep at age 4 because my friend's M. prayed the "if I die before I wake" prayer with us before bed. I think that some kids are just more sensitive than others, and that without even watching scary movies, they pick up on the scary stuff they do hear (in the news, in your conversations, at school) and it ignites their imaginations. Maybe counseling would help. I'm not sure, it was never tried with me.

Good luck!

Hi Doris,

I know that I am late on responding, but I read through the previous responses and wanted to add to it. This is such an interesting topic, and I think that you have had many good responses so far. As a child, and adult, I have had similar instances. The house I grew up in had a ghost, or something, and also an apartment that I lived in a few years ago. I love to talk about the encounters I have had with other people, and I love to find out what has happened to them. I am a Christian woman, and I do believe in angels, and spirits. Also, when my brother was 19 he shot himself, and a few years later the family that lived in the house we grew up in said that there was a boy, described as my brother, was standing at the foot of the bed in the room that I stayed in (my brother and I were very close). I have never had an encounter where I heard or saw anything, but I have seen things move and such in my homes. Pretty crazy, and freaky at the same time. One night it had gotten so bad that my husband and I got so scared that we went to Denny's until daylight. We didn't know what else would happen, but so many things had opened, or moved, or turned on, that we didn't want to be there anymore. So, anyways, what I wanted to add was this.....my daughter is afraid of the dark. What we did was teach her that if there is an evil spirit, all she had to do was pronounce in Jesus' name that the "monster" needs to leave. If I were you, I'd have my son vocally say, "In Jesus' name I demand any evil spirit to leave my home". I know that people have told you to pray over your home, but I think that sometimes you may have to vocally demand it. My daughter feels so much safer now, knowing that Jesus has taken care of the "monsters" in the house. If you don't mind, could you take the time to let me know how everything is going? I'd like to know. Good luck, and God bless!

Pray with him as soon as he runs to you. Just say, okay, no problem, God is more powerful then the voice you are hearing and will protect you, so we are going to ask God to get rid of the voice you are hearing, okay. Then hold his hand, you put your hand in the air as you pray and then pray out loud, Lord/Jesus, we ask that you put a hedge of protection around, your son's name, and you; Mommy, and the entire house and that you would just rid this house of anything unclean, choose some words you think would be appropriate, I try to not say scary words, but use your discretion. Then continue, saying, we cast this voice that, son's name, is hearing as far as the east is from the west, and that you would just tablernacle amoungest use, all throughout our home and put a mighty angel next to, son's name, and protect him. This will make him feel like he is not alone in whatever room he is in, but has protection even when you are not in the same room with him...just continue doing this every time he gets scared, until he realizes that he is protected and can call on God and God's angel when he gets scared...If you get really spooked say, I cast out any unclean sprirt through the blood and authority of Jesus Christ as far as the east is to the west away from my son and this house "out loud"...I know this sounds pretty wild, but it sure wouldn't hurt...God Bless, t

I can definitely relate to your 6 yr. old. I'm 42, and when I was about 5 or 6, I would see other children (ghost like) in the house, and they would call my name. I did not want to sleep by myself, because I was scared of them. My father would sleep with me in my room. I would see other children and hear them call my name in the evening hours. Rarely, did I experience this during the day. It was usually at night.

I am not a professional, just speaking from experience. I was suffering from Schizophrenia. I would take your son to a child psychiatrist, just to be on the safe side.

I'm on medication and am living a normal life. Good Luck.

Talk with his Dr. he will better know who you should see. But do it soon for both of you. The school councilor will also be able to answer any questions check with both of them. It could be something as simple as being afraid of the dark or a make believe type of thing. But what ever you do, do not make him feel like it is something to be afraid of. Maybe if you go in there and talk in front of him to this other being and he see's you, he will feel better. With kids you can never no. But please talk with someone about this, it might be simple for you to talk with your Dr. first.

WOW -- I bet you are freaking out right now, reading all of the responses.....spirits, demons, etc. First let me say that I do believe all of these things exist.....who can disagree? But, on the other hand, it could be that he is just scared at night and does not want to be alone.
Have you thought about talking to your other children? Maybe they could help you out with him. I am sure with all of them being so much older, they are very protective of him and would try very hard to help you with this. Get to the bottom of it. If it is a spirit, ghost or other entity, you will need support.

Take care

I don't know whether or not your child is actually hearing a voice, if he is just imagining it, or if it is just a good excuse because he doesn't like being alone.

I know that when I was little, I used to scare the tar out of myself at night. I would stand by the wall, flip off the light and tear into my bed. I would tell myself that there was something that could get me if any part of my body was sticking out of the covers.

I also have a six year-old. There are many times that her imagination gets away with her, or when she wants to get extra attention, she comes in and tells us her tummy hurts. This is either a chronic stomach issue (which I actually had checked out) or a way to spend time with her parents when we aren't running around taking care of everything else. Just give him some extra love and try to go up with him during his bedtime routine. Tuck him in like you did when he was littler and get him a night light or leave the door open with the hall light on.

Also, you mentioned his tv habits, but what about books. There seems to be a trend with first and second graders reading "Goosebumps." These are mild ghost stories that have a happy ending of some sort, but which could be pretty frightening to more sensitive children.

I personally have used "monster spray" for my younger ones, but six may be too old...like the one poster who had her room blessed said, it may solidify his belief that something bad is there.

I do agree with the prayers. I have taught my children that the "Holy Ghost" is there to give us comfort and that when he thinks he hears the voice, to pray for the Holy Ghost to give him comfort. I wouldn't worry about counselling at this point, there would be more symptoms if he had a major psychological issues. Good luck to you all, and God bless you and your home.

It's probably just his imagination. Something may be going on that he needs your attention more? My kids have done similar things. It is usually just a phase until they find a new phase. I would let him sleep in your room a couple of nights just to make sure he's getting sleep, especially if he's not lettin you sleep. Then maybe try and sleep a night with him in his room to show him that it's not true. Play soft music for him to distract him - or put a small fan on for white noise. My kids, especially my daughter, seem to seek out things to be scared of. It drives me nuts because every month it's something new. But, I do my best to patiently calm her fears and teach her that she shouldn't be scared - but smart!

Doris,

I read a lot of the other posts before responding. All of these are good, but probably have left you as confused as ever! I hope you can find in your heart what is the best thing to do for you and your son; because only you know your son and as the steward over his life, you know what is best for him....having 3 adult children living on their own is a testiment that you are a great mother!

My daughter, as a small baby, would look at the wall or in the air and just start laughing. She would stare at something intently that wasn't there (to me) and smile. I recorded it because I wanted to preserve it. I am a Christian, raised in a Baptist household and believe with all my heart in spirits. My father passed away before my daughter was born and I like to think that he is with her in some way; although I realize his spirit is in heaven.

I don't think taking your son to a counselor, dr. or therapist is necessary. Mothers know how to raise their children. I would stay clear of the school counselors. While they are meant to be well-meaning...you really don't want them medling to much in your home life at all, no matter how idyllic it might be! We know how to nurture our kids and how to bring them into this world with courage and understanding. Trust yourself. Don't be afraid of something very natural about your son. Children have fears, don't be frightened to help him through it yourself. Be gentle with this; you don't want to make his fears out to be unfounded. They are very very real (as another post said) and he needs to know that it is ok to express his fears. You might want to buy a book that has something about your situation or borrow one from the library (times are tough!).

I really liked the post with the monster spray. This will enhance his imagination and give him courage at the same time. I did a similar thing when my daughter was "seeing" dinosaurs. I used a bottle of rose water that smelled really sweet that made it a good sensory experience for her. This gave her power over what she feared; which is something that will help her later in life.

Good luck to you and your soon! You are an amazing M., trust that always! Just look at your grown children and remember how fast it goes.

Best wishes,
M. Pinilla

The responses are very informative, and I agree with many. It's good to have an open mind. A friend of mine had the same issue with her son. It turned out that he too was hearing voices, and it was determined that he was bipolar. As soon as medication was prescribed, the voices dissappeared. Now don't be frightened, this may not be the same for you, but I just wanted to let you know this scenario, so you have as much info as possible. Of course, prayer is powerful as well.

Hi Doris I didn't read all the responses but the ones I did probably have you frightened. I never experienced this, I've heard things before but I just wanted to add that if you do go to a doctor make sure he's a christian and if you want to seek counseling maybe you should consult your pastor first. I'm very careful when I'm seeking counseling. Let me also add if it is a spirit just remember Revelations if your a christian we are on the side that wins. Satan has power put God has all power and him being within us gives us the power to rebuke spirits to leave our family alone and to get out of our house in Jesus's name. AT the name of Jesus the spirit has to obey. Of course you want to make sure God has his angels keeping and eye out for us. Everyone I know who does this has a very peaceful home, a really sweet spirit felt home, but they walk their lawn and inside their home and bless it. I've even know people to have the preacher come with holy oil and pray and bless their house. you may want to start there. Good luck I'm sorry your little guy is frightened.

Doris, I too am sorry for respoding late in the time frame, but I want to reach out to you. Have you ever watched TAPS?
It's Ghost Hunters on Sci-fi on tv. They go to houses and take cameras, emp detectors and other tech machines and try to find out what's going on. Their service is free as they are sponsored by the television station. They are very good at their job, they help as soon as they can for children and even adults. You should contact them. I believe in spirits and when I was 12 my dad died and I saw him in a mirror after the funeral. My son and daughter also have a gift to tell if something is wrong and evil is around. You can try to demand leaving like others have said, but it's got to be you and your son with a cross for protection. Have a Bible in your hand and not all are evil, as they can be angels who look over him. Not all kids know what's going on so they are afraid of the voices. You should talk to him about it and get him to draw a picture of what they are saying. Also you can find out yourself with a voice recorder and make sure you ask questions and tell them that you're house is a peaceful place and that any evil is not welcome. Then you should be able to play it back and find out what these spirits are looking for. Sometimes they are trying to cross over or are lost and then sometimes can be other children who are looking for their parents. Try to interact and get in touch with TAPS. Best of luck and I will pray for you.

Doris,

When we moved into our house, I prayed thru every room in it. I walked thru praying that anything, spirit or natural, that didn't bow to the name of Jesus be gone from my house. I saw things as a child in my parent's house that would keep me awake at night. I believe they were spirits who would taunt me & make me fearful. I can still describe them with great detail almost 30 years later. Scripture says that God has not given us the spirit of fear but of love, peace and sound mind. So you know that this "voice" isn't from God. Pray over your son that his heart and mind would be guarded while he sleeps & that he would have peaceful sleep. I'm a little bold (especially when it comes to my children) but if there is a spirit that wants to talk to my child, I'd be speaking right back to it and letting it know it was not welcomed in my house & has to leave immediately. I don't want my children being fearful of something they can't see and don't know how to deal with.

Pray with you son. My almost 5 year old had bad dreams and such starting at age 3 and is very fearful. I tell her all the time that God is always with her and he is our friend and loves her. I would pray with him and over him as he sleeps. You might also just let him sleep on the floor in your room (don't make it an overly comfortable thing). It won't harm him to sleep in your room for a couple days or even weeks. Tell him it is just a special treat. He is only going to be this little for a small time, he won't be sleeping in your room when he is 13. If things persist and it doesn't get better then I would take him to see a psychologist in line with your religious beliefs. Just said a little prayer for your son.

One other thing, I would severely limit/censor his movie/tv watching and see if that helps. Sometimes something that wasn't scary to a child the first 20 times starts affecting them and you don't even know it and they might not even notice it is specifically from that movie or show. Star Wars, Spiderman, Transformers and even cartoons "made" for kids are really just marketed to kids and doesn't mean you have to give in to what everyone says kids his age should watch. A 6 year old cannot always process good vs evil and keep it all in "pretend" mode. Also, remember commercials. This is huge. My husband watches football during the day and there are some messed up commercials and very scary things. I make my husband Tivo them and be mindful of the commercials.
