I'm not sure if this will help but I've noticed over the past year or so that my son's hearing hasn't been quite like it should. He's failed the hearing they give at school (only in left ear) two years in a row. We've tried rounds of antibiotics and nasal spray. Nothing seems to help with the hearing and the constant stuffy nose. He has no history of ear infections, ear aches, drainage or itching. We took him to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor a few months back. They're going to try putting tubes in his ears to see if that will help. They said he did have large amount of fluid in his ears.
While we were in the office, the doctor did mention that he also puts tubes in adult's ears. Maybe you could check with your doctor to see if that could be a possibility for you.
Good luck!

I have the same history with my left ear. I've seen specialists, had a CAT scan and an MRI and all have said the same thing. They don't know why the hearing in my left ear is so compromised. Therefore there is no known treatment except getting a hearing aid.

I recently got hearing aids because the hearing in my right ear was worsening. I'm 69. The hearing aid for my left ear allows me to hear well in that ear. Of course the one in the right ear does the same. I hear equally out of both ears now.

You could have what is called otosclerosis. It is hardening of the bone in the inner ear and will cause hearing loss. Some women get it when they are pregnant.

You should go see an ENT (ears, nose, and throat) doctor to see what they can find and hopefully have a treatment plan for you.

They will most likely send you out for a hearing test after the initial appointment, and then bring you back in to discuss the actual levels of your left ear.

I had this happen but all my life and it turned out that my ear drum was inverted and had created a pocket of trapped fluid in my ear that had gotten infected and eroded my hearing bone in my left ear. 3 surgeries later to correct the infection, and the bone twice my hearing is almost to where it should have been my entire life.

They will have answers for you when you go in to help you. So make an appointment!

Welcome to mamapedia. We're parents, not doctors. I suggest you see an ENT.

Question way out of my scope of experience. Please see a doctor about your hearing. I would probably not keep any listening devices on that ear until after and assessment from the doc's.

Go to an ENT if you haven't already. My son was born with hearing loss. I've learned over the years that it can happen at any point in your life and sometimes there are no answers. Depending on why your suffering from hearing loss, depends on treatment. It's possible that you have always had a mild loss and just didn't know. Once you've been to an ENT, go to see an audiologist. Between the two of them you will see what treatment/ care is best. If you have hearing loss and not something else going on, you can't increase your hearing without some sort of amplification.

Good luck
