Since having a c-section 2/2007 and having a tubal at the same time, my periods have been horriffc!! I have been to the family Dr so many times in the last year and had blood tests and pap's. I have been on Depo-Provera since Feb this year and now I have it constantly where as before it was extreme for a week, now it is extreme for 3-4 weeks. I have had a period since Feb with the exception of one month (May) and one week (June). I went to the Dr Friday and she put me on a 10 day prescription of Premarin, which is used mainly to treat post menopausal patients. Well, called the Dr yesterday because it was worse and today it was horrible and the pain from cramping had me doubled over (thank God my son was sleeping). Finally after calling the Dr crying they called the OB/GYN and I can be seen tomorrow (instead of the end of August because that was the 'earliest' they had). It usually is not a painful period just heavy. I was scheduled for an ultrasound this Wed, but since I am going tomorrow to the Dr not sure what will happen. Has anyone ever gone through this stuff?? It is so frustrating and gross and I am soooo tired of it! I am still waiting on a call back to see if I should stop taking premarin... I think I will stop it as I am not doing any better with it. I want a hysterectomy which I know will give me all kinds of other issues but sheesh which is worse??? I am a SAHM to a very active 17 months old boy and I can't even take him to the pool!

this exact same thing happened to me when I had my 4th child at age 36, also a c-section and I had a tubal at the same time. Which turned out to be a very bad decision on my part. I bled constantly....every single day from that point on. It was also so heavy that I would attempt to go somewhere with the kids and the blood would soak thru all of my clothes, it was so horrible.....I know exactly what you are going thru! After 6 months of bleeding like this, I was very anemic and my OB put me on all kinds of hormones, five a day I was taking to get the bleeding to stop, and still no, I was still bleeding! In August....so 11 months later, I had an Endometriotic Ablation......this was an outpatient thing, and after the procedure I had a light discharge still for months, nothing to be compared to that heavy bleeding every day though. Eventually that stopped and I still get a period for one week a month....but it is very very heavy and with horrible cramps. I have recently read that many Dr's do the Ablation as a last resort type of thing before giving you the hysterectomy. Everything I have now read about the Ablation though says that MOST women stop having a period following that procedure....or some women just get a one or two day period that only requires a light panty liner!? So, again, I am a bad case.....I am currently waiting months to get in with a Gyn dr. to see what the heck is going on with my uterus! LOL! Hang in there....and push your Dr. to do something....anything that is going to STOP this bleeding problem right away. I know.....you can't live like this, practically house bound with a baby! But, be pushy and assertive so you can get this taken care of without taking a mouthful of stupid pills every day that are not even working. I wish you luck.....and hope this works out for you!

I also had(have) this - my Drs gave it a name, and when I looked it up on the internet - there were all my symptoms, and yours. Of course I forget the name now - it was a medical name and noone calls it that - they just say heavy period. You and I know it's not - it's an "All the time period". I bled for 5 months once.
I received a letter form my OB GYN which stated that they now have a procedure which freezes inside a person and that usually takes care of it, in fact it often stops menstrual bleeding altogether. After trying birth control to regulate the bleeding (didn't work) and estrogen pills which I'll never take again!!! (also didn't work and my moods just exploded!!)I was up for a hysterectomy (last resort) I decided that when it happens again, I'll do that.
What I can also say, if you're a Christain, prayer works! My prayer group prayed about this last summer and it stopped in time for my week long beach visit. This year it had happened again and I was going on a 8 hour flight, which would've been awful when you have to change the pad and tampon every hour, and we prayed again and it stopped and has not restarted so far!!
Try that first - it's free, painless and will even give you a good feeling inside!! :)

I had a c-section/tubal and my periods have also been very irregular and heavy but only for the amount of time that I am supposed to have them. When I was on Depo I would beel the entire time. It could be your shot causing all the bleeding. Try another type of birth control it may fix the problem. Good Luck!
I have had the same problem after my tubal. I don't have it all the time like you but my periods used to be light and now they last about 8 days and I bleed heavy and have terrible cramping. My sister told me when you get your tubes tied it makes you out of whack.

I went through a similar situation after my 2nd was born. All my life I have had irregular periods, but nothing extreme, they just weren't monthly (usually 2x a month) but normal periods and I never had cramps. then after my first was born I started getting some light cramp and more PMS symptoms with my periods. But after my 2nd it was a whole new ball game. My periods got more often (more than 2x a month) heavier and the cramping was unbearable. I have been on many different kinds of birth control pills since I was a teenager, orthro-cept, orthro-cyclen, orthro-tricyclen, the patch, and Aleese. I believe that it was either the patch or the orthro-tricyclen that I went back on after my son was born at 6 week appointment. I was good for a month or two, then it all fell apart. I was doubled over like you said with the most unbearable cramping pains and mine were on only one side, I used lay in the fetal position on my bed and cry it was so bad. I would have rather birthed another child! I understand the pain. and the periods were heavy and almost all the time. I have vaginal ultrasounds, abdomenal ultrasounds and blood tests to rule out other problems, I guess. Everything was fine! I was very close to telling them to take my ovaries out b/c I couldn't take it anymore (I knew I didn't want and more kids, so I didn't care). Finally, I was talking to my cousin who is a nurse practitioner and she suggested going on the lowest hormone level birth control there was on the market and at the time it was Alesse. 3 Years later I am still on Alesse, my symptoms disappears almost immediately. I kept jumping to higher hormone level pills b/c they would start to regulate me better once the one I was on stopped working. I wanted to be on something b/c I didn't want to get pregnant. Alesse works for me, I do often get a light period, but would only need a light pad that week, it's usually the 2nd week on pills for me. So, I have 1st week, no period, 2nd week a light period or spotting, 3rd week no period and the full period 4th week, but never super heavy or clotting, just a normal period some months lighter than others. And no cramping, once in a while i may feel bloated and be a little crampy, but nothing Midol extra strength doesn't do wonders for! So I don't know if any of this sounds familiar with you, but if it works try a very low hormone pill, it might work instantly. Good luck, J.

The only comment I have is that if the primarine isn't working - stop taking it. It is created using a seriously inhumane procedure on horses.
I had the same issues and ended up having an abellation done. This is where they insert a ballon-like thingy in your uterus and fill it with almost boiling water, which sears the lining of the uterus. As a result, My periods are now like a maximum of three days and they are so light I forget that I have it! It is just amazing and I recommend it for anyone. Also, the recovery time was nonexistent.
