hello, K., you know the nervous, first time pregnancy
yada yada. while i cant tell you (yet) about potty training boys, i did have the joy of potty training my younger sister, twenty eight years ago (give or take), potty training is the one place where peer pressure is helpful, even useful, if the childs friends are going through potty training then the child will usually be more responsive to it,plus they wont have to wait for someone to change them, best advice, set up a potty chair just for them, put it within a child eye view of the bathroom, put a childs book or two beside it (dealing with potty training ) and maybe even their favorite stuffed toy
and then wait for them to start asking about it.. it wont take long

Not sure from your question, what time does your child go to bed? What time does your mother go to bed? My son is turning 3 in the next couple of months and we used to have him in bed by 8:30pm. He is not yet potty trained but we are trying to work on it, however it is not something you can force. He also isn't in bed until usually after 9:00pm now and he will stay up sometimes after that for another hour, even though we make the house dark and quiet and he gets up at about 7:30am. He just takes one nap a day, usually for 2 hours. As for your Mom, I do not know the situation but if she had you she should understand that children do not stick to some strict schedule or always do what you want them to do. Good luck!

Not sure I understand the question. A 21 month old should still be sleeping roughly 7pm to 7am. Does your Mom go to bed that early? Either way, toddlers fight sleep occasional. Every few months, he may have a bad period. She should understand that.

As for potty? Wait until he is close to three. He might show an interest soon, but he probably won't have the control or attention or motivation to do well at it for months.

Hi Chantel,
I don't fully understand the circumstances regarding your question, so I will offer the best advice I can. If he's crying and not wanting to go to sleep, try having a nighly routine for your son for bedtime. Like bath, then a story, etc.

I have a different outlook on potty training than most moms. I would go ahead and introduce him to the potty now. Show him how to use the potty. Try taking him to potty about 15-20 minutes after each meal.

Don't force him, just simply guide him in that direction. :-) If he absolutley refuses, don't make him use the potty. Leave the potty in open view for him to see it and just ask him if he wants to use the big boy potty. Yes, it takes time and patience but it can be done.

Let us know if you need more assistance. Be blessed!

From my experience (4 kids) and what I have read, you should wait on potty training until your son is dry through the night. That indicates bladder control. Hope this helps.

Good luck you should expect a child at 21 mo. to go to bed easily you should expect your mother to understand that a 21mo. doesn't go to bed easily and will prob. wake her up.
