Help! Baby Does Not like Formula

Hi ladies,
I recently reduced my pumping and have incorporated formula. Problem is that my daughter of almost 10 mo. does not like the formula. I am told it is a bit gritty and she needs to adjust. We have done 3/4 BM and 1/2 F but she detects it still. We did manage to get her to drink some this morning by disguising flavor w/ her needed vitamins. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My son was the same age as your daughter when we started to introduce formula...and he hated it! The trick that worked for me (recommended by a friend) was to add a tablespoon of Karo syrup to the formula bottles. I wouldn't say he loved the formula then, but would definitely take it without too much fuss. I then used less & less Karo syrup with each formula bottle and over the course of a week or so, he took the formula with no problems at all. Hope that helps!

I know some people have a strong personal aversion to feeding baby's soy based anything... but soy formula is sweeter than milk based.... the smell of milk based makes me gag... soy is much nicer smelling to me. consider making it in batches of say 20 ounces, or 10 ounces, the night before with warm water (test with your wrist- not too warm or it will spoil) - make sure that all the powder is dissolved... you could even use a blender. by the next morning all the bubbles and froth should be eliminated and the powder will have had a chance to dissolve completely.

that might help.... ???

good luck

You can introduce cow's milk at a year. WHy not just try to continue to nurse for another 2 months and see if he likes cow's milk instead of formula. It's also a whole lot cheaper!

I'm doing the same with our 10M old. Luckily, he'll eat anything that comes close to his mouth if it's in a bottle.

Our first son was picky so we had to try different ones. Similac Advance tasted the most like breastmilk and the pre-mixed stuff was the best - but also the most expensive. So, we used that until he got used to it and then started mixing it with the powdered.

I guess you just have to try some of a bunch and see what works.

Good luck.

I had the same problem with my daughter. What I started to do was really slowly introduce the formula. I did an even smaller amount of formula with the breast milk, until I got her up to 1 bottle of formula a day, then I went from there. I started earlier than you, but it worked. Ironically she is 3 now, and loves most foods, but her brother who didn't care what formula gave him is super picky!

Good luck
