Yesterday my husband got up to take a shower--and there was no hot water. We had a guy come over to look at it and he said he needs to be replaced. The quote we got was $1050 and I'm not sure if I trust this guy. Has anyone replaced a water heater recently or have a suggestion on a good person to use? I live in the Carrollton area. Respond soon-- I need to take a hot shower!

What can I do next?

Thanks! My husband found a guy that will do it today for $675! I can't wait to take a hot shower!

You did not state if the heater was electric or gas. One possibility that might be available is that if you have the option of using either gas or electricity then you might consider contacting the opposite carrier that you are presently using and see if you switch over if they will give you a hot water heater. Some gas/electric companies will do so. Usually they provide the hot water heater and you pay for installation. If this is an option for you it is worth a try to see if anyone will take you up on the offer.

Word of caution though, check what you are currently paying with what the new charge would be and if you are required to sign some type of contract since they would be providing the unit.

I don't know what kind you are buying, but that seems rather high to me. I have a lot of rental property and have to replace water heaters regularly; I think I usually pay around $600, and I thought that was high. Obviously you may be getting a much different quality than I might put in my rentals, but I doubt it's that different! I use Robert Renfro at ###-###-####; I have used him for more than ten years.

We replaced ours a few months back too. We bought the cheapest one we could find at Home Depot because we plan on selling the house. Then we paid their contractors to install it.

It ended up being about $600 for the hot water heater then because we live in Carrollton, and they have recently changed codes, we ended up paying about $1,000 for the quick and easy 'el cheapo'. The install and code changes they had to make was expensive (I thought) for what we got.

My dad is a semi-retired plumber in Lewisville. He doesn't work in Carrollton, but he can probably give you a few names of good, honest plumbers. You can also call Apex Supply in Lewisville and Mike or Bob can recommend someone.

We have not replaced one yet but.....I recently got a quote to replace our 2 gas water heaters with top quality heaters. We intend to do this before the end of the year. One of our water heaters is completely out of order.

We are going with a company referred to us called Classic Plumbing ###-###-####. We will be purchasing 2 Bradford White (good ones) gas water heaters (50 gal each). There is a 6 yr warranty and 6 yr warranty on parts. It is a 5-6 hour job and because we are doing 2 at the same time we got a small discount. My quote was $1650 plus tax.

I am in the Plano/Allen area.

we had our water heater replaced by Plumbing Solutions out of Corinth in 2004. ###-###-####; Todd Jarrett. We had home warranty ins. at the time, but we would still use them again....they came in the middle of cold, rainy night as I had a newborn at the time. Give them a try. Good Luck!
