Help! Get the Stench Out of My Son's Lovey!

My son has one of my husband's old t-shirts from 10 years ago as a lovey. I cannot replace this. A week ago my son dipped his lovey into the bath as it was filling right before nap (joy!) so before he went in the tub I put it in the dryer, when it came out it was still damp. The tag/collar part is where my son seems to enjoy rubbing and sucking and now it has this awful stench! I put it in the wash this morning, I'm on my 4th wash of the thing and it still stinks! I've tried vinegar, I've tried baking soda... Nothing works.. It still stinks! It's red so I can't use bleach./ It's currently sitting in the washer soaking in hot water with vinegar/baking soda.. Any other tips to get this stench out?

I don't know if this will work but you could try! For stains I put dawn dish soap on the stain rub it in and let it sit for like 5 minutes then I hand wash in cold water and it ALWAYS comes out. You could try it for the smell, I've never done so....

Try Febreze Extra Strength for fabric (like the stuff you would use on upholstery) and spray it on, let it sit for several minutes, then wash with regular laundry detergent in hot water. Fabreze also has a liquid that you can add to your wash that takes almost any stench out.

You might try using ammonia then re-washing in regular laundry soap (or Deft which is what I use on my grandson's laundry). Ammonia is a great odor eater.

Good luck

My 16 month old has a Piglet...I make a paste out of the laundry soap and let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse it and wash in hot water, and hang it out in the sun to dry. I still use color safe bleach on it about once a month and that really helps with the smell too. Hope you get the stink out!

I use Melapower and Melasoft to get "stench's" out of clothes. They are both low cost and toxin-free. I would be happy to introduce you to the company that manufactures them if you want. Just send me a message and let me know. :)

try leaving it out in direct sun, for ALL day.
The sun is supposed to be a natural sanitizer....

Is your son "missing" his lovey? Will he take a substitute or another of your Hubby's shirts? My son has a stuffed cow that he's had since 6 months old... and although I have a "back-up" cow... he will not "love" that one as much as his original cow.... even though they are the same cow. My son, "likes" the stinky-smell of it....LOL. But he will let me wash it... sometimes.

"dampness" is often a hard smell to get rid of.

Try do a Google search on it.

Good luck,
Susan

Try soaking it in Oxy Clean. It works wonders.

Hi M.!
I am also a SAHM with a "spirited" 20 month old. (I like that saying, it fits my little boy too!) I would say vinegar, but it seems you already tried that. I don't actually care for that option anyway because then you have vinegar smelling clothes. I work from home setting up accounts for a green company, who has a line of all natural, non toxic detergents and cleaners and they work wonders! They get the smell out of anything and can even get permanant marker off of anything as well. Please contact me to find out more! They are super concentrated so they save you money compared to your regular cleaning products too!
Take care,
Jenny

Try the hottest wash your washer will do and put in plenty of washing detergent in .

That should do the trick.

Not sure on this one... maybe Clorox2 (bleach alternative)?

Washing with ammonia gets rids of odors (even cat urine). I wash with regular detergent and ammonia (1/2 and 1/2 approx), and then an extra wash with just water to rinse away any residue.
