Hi last night while driving home from the Diamondbacks game my 8 year old son decided to tell my husband & I that our 5 year old wrote all over the back of the passenger seat of my car! Well I looked at it and it's not writing it looks like a black ink pen exploded on the tan leather seat! I have tried alcohol, hairspray, leather cleaner, leather solvent, oxyclean, perfume (I got that idea from another website), magic eraser, degreaser....I am desperate to get it off! I take very good care of my belongings and this would ruin my chances of getting top dollar for my car if I ever had to sell it or trade it in! HELP ME!!!

The Queen of Clean says to use cuticle remover to get ink off of leather. Here are her instructions:

Dab a little cuticle remover on the spot and rub gently with a soft cloth, wipe and buff. You may need to allow the cuticle remover to sit for 10 minutes or so before rubbing for difficult stains. Reapply if necessary.

She also suggested rubbing alcohol. I hope you get it out-good luck!

We used rubbing alcohol to get permanent marker out of our couch. It took some time, but it came out. You might try Goo B Gone. Also, check out the Queen of Cleans website for advice.

My youngest got ink all over in a hotel room and I ran off to Walmart to save my soul :-) I found a product called DiDiSeven (tube in a box about 10.00) and it did well ! I hope you get that out and remember if he "dug" into the material it WILL matter... if the child only wrote "lightly" you have a better chance! Good luck and let us know how this turns out!

The wierd thing I've heard of lately is 1)brake cleaning fluid (from a mechanic who uses it for a variety of things) and 2)carburetor cleaner (from a professional carpet cleaner)... I'd try either of them in an inconspicuous place first... otherwise I'd try what I did for a pair of natural leather shoes that got stained... have that portion of your seats professionally dyed to match the stain.

I was going to suggest magic eraser but I see you've tried that. If the other ideas fail, I have a stick that I got with my couches that removes lipstick and pen. I've only had real success with it when I've been able to get right to the mark, but it certainly can't make things any worse. Send me a message if you'd like to give it a shot. Good luck. Stay positive, it's not going to be the last time your kids ruin something. We joke in our family that the mom's mantra is "I can't have nuthin'!!!"

Per Good Housekeeping: Try patent leather shoe cleaner in an obsure place and see if it works. Here's their website/instructions:

http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/ink-stain-leather-may02

If that doesn't work, try plain old toothpaste, not the gel but plain old paste. It's mildly abrasive, just make sure you wipe with plain water and work in small areas. Then use a leather conditioner once the stains are removed. The "old wives" swear by this to also removes water stains from wood furniture. Good luck.

K.,
I'm sorry about your car seat and wish I knew how to fix it. I was thinking as I read your post that maybe a car detailing place might offer some help or be able to do it for you! Best of luck to you!!

Hair spray is great for removing ink. But do not use acetone, it will eat the leather.

Hi K.,
Pure Acetone will take off. You can buy it at Salleys Beauty. The brand is Beauty Secrets. Just put some on a rag or cotton ball and rub it off.

Good Luck!

The products are exclusive tho so let me know if I can show you how to start using them! They're the bomb!
