Pierres in South Brunswick is also wonderful...but they are a little pricey if you want a 'specialty' cake. I got my son's cake there for his 1st birthday and everyone loved it!!
Hi moms!
Please help. My son's first birthday party is in a week and a half and I need to find a good bakery to get his birthday cake from. I tried to do it myself (twice!) and it didn't turn out well!
Now I am in a bind and I need a cake in a hurry. I don't want to order a cake from just any place unless I know it is good.
Thanks!
Kim
Thank you everyone for all your wonderful suggestions. The first place I went was La Bonbonneire because so many of you suggested it and because it is so close to me. That didn't work out because all they could offer me was a white cake with a Sesame Street wafer on top with Roses surrounding it. NOT what I was looking for. I did not want roses for my son's 1st birthday! So, I went to Mendoker Bakery. I told them that I was looking for somethiing Sesame Street themed. They handed me a book with lots of pictures of beautiful cakes. I picked one and we were done! They had some great suggestions for me. I would highly recommend them for service. I'll let you know how the cake tastes after we get it! The only thing is I forgot to order a little cake to let my son "experiment" with!
Thanks again!
Kim

HI there. I don't know how you would feel about this, but i always get my birthday cakes from Costco. You can pre-order them and it takes a day or two, but you can buy them already made. They are the best cakes and they are $14.99. It is a really good size and you can beat it. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where you're from, but La Bonbonniere is one that has about 4 locations in the Edison area... hands down the best bakery in central Jersey. Everyone I know who has tasted a cake from their has started to get their cakes from there, they are really awesome.
Good luck!
D'orsis bakery in the Woodbridge area is GREAT!!!. The # is ###-###-####. They make all kinds of cakes for children and will also do portraits on the cake if you bring them a picture.
I don't know what area ur in but Mother Mousse is always a favorite. Good Luck & Happy Birthday to ur son --E.
We have gotten most our birthday cakes from Costco and they are YUMMY...plus the price it right at 14.99. We have had cakes from BJ's at mys sister's and they are yummy too. I say go with BJ or Costco...that way you can have extra $$ for other things. Happy birthday to your son!
Where do you live? i'm from Staten Island, and know a few good ones. Let me know. Email me at: ____@____.com just put mamasource in the subject line, so I know who you are.
I don't know where you live but if you are in the Edison area I highly recommend La Bonbonniere. I've been using them for years and I've never had a dessert that I didn't like. I recently went to a 1 year old birthday party and the mom purchased the cake from La Bonbonniere, it was a vanilla cake with custard filling and butter cream. It was very simple for the children but still very delicious and not too sweet! Good Luck!
mendokers in jamesburg on railroad ave. the best!!!
Not sure where you live, but Mendoker's in Jamesberg is a really good bakery. Everything is baked daily and is really yummy. Their cupcakes, in particular, are absolutely delicious.
hi there's a good bakery it's called texaira's in union nj
Why don't you try Costco? They have delicious cakes and they will customize them for you. I have used a few different Costco's for their bakery and have gotten rave reviews on the cakes. Good Luck!
HI
I am not sure where you live, but we have been using our A&P bakery.(South Plainfield)
They have actually impressed some people....
My friends use Costco, SHop Rite, and our local bakery in Metuchen called Buttery Bakery.
Have a great time............

Ok
The best bakery is La Bonbonniere Bake Shoppe
2062 Rt. 27 in Edison (across from Pines Manor)I have been getting my birthday cakes from there for 15 years
they are the best, I had one for my baby shower and my sons Christing The best cake to get is butter cream frosting white cake with custard and fresh bananas and strawberries. they really do a great job with the decoration on the cake so i would not pay extra for a special design. They charge 95.00 for 1/2 a sheet I think or it could be for a 1/4 so don't hold me to that good luck and Happy Birthday to your son, My son will be one on May 14th and this is where I will be getting the cake from.
