HELP! In the Beginning of Labor - How Do I Stay Positive???? Oh My Achin' Back!

You'd think by my third pregnancy/labor I'd be an old hand at this! But every one has been SOOOO different from the others.

I am currently (at last check) 3 cms dialated, 80% effaced and we are ALL on HIGH BABY WATCH since Friday. Dr said I could go fast so don't be left alone and be ready to get the other kids to stay with someone and get to the hospital. THAT WAS 4 DAYS AGO.

The good news is, I am being "babysat" by my lovely mother or mother in law. My husband will meet us at the hospital and is ready to go. Everyone is amazingly supportive. And I am grateful.

The bad news is - no "real" contractions, no pain (yes, I know you'd think that would be a good thing), so I feel like no "progression". The reality is, yes I'm contracting on and off, LOTS of pressure "down there", on and off nausea, now a constant low dull backache.

I feel like a guinea pig! Everyone, including me, is waiting for something to HAPPEN, and it's just sooo slooooowww. I am feeling tired, achey and discouraged.

How do I stay upbeat and positive and show how grateful I am for all of this help and support when I really want to cry and JUST GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD? BTW - I have been doing some of the things they say to help ease stress and pain during labor and to help things move along. I think that's part of what's frustrating me more!

This will be our last baby. I have been trying to enjoy this process, but am feeling run down and low on positive vibes.

So What Happened?

Thanks all for your support and encouragement. Our little man arrived with a little help from the drs. Essentially I was induced - they agreed that my "labor" was not progressing like they'd hoped and admitted me to the hospital to break my water and give me pitocin. I was SO glad to finally get things moving - I was stressed and uncomfortable. Our fabulous little boy was born 7lbs 13oz - so he definitely wasn't "early" - he was pink, healthy and beautiful.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Still in our "holding pattern". I will update this with news, once it happens.

My next drs appt is Friday. I am hoping to have this baby TODAY! But again, nothing seems to be progressing with how my labor feels. Nauseous. Tired. Ready to get this kid OUT.

Thanks for all of your kind and supportive words. I know I will be happy once he's here. Just struggling right now.

Thanks all.

Enjoy your "last two"....Write that "last letter" to your daughters, before number three comes. It's great to read that letter in 5 or 10 years from now. I did that to my daughter and, yes, I bawled my eyes out while I was writing it. It's very poignant. You'll remember where your mind was - tell them what you are feeling, how much you've enjoyed the two of them, how anxious you are, how you feel, and talk about the summer of 2009. It's just a great gift for the future. We were on high alert for eternity, (well, just days!) My son was 5 days late so, we waited, and waited, and... Try not to get discouraged. Your new, little one is also waiting for that perfect moment too! As for your family and their excitement???? Your husband is walking on eggshells and for your girls, it's worse than any family vacation buzzwords of "ARE WE THERE YET????" Soon, it will be THAT moment.... you WILL get there.

You're doing great. Truly you are. It's wonderful that you have enjoyed this pregnancy. And you will look back on these moments and you will remember that fact. This part of your memory, the run-down part, will fade, once you look into your newborns eye's for the first time.

Congratulations, in advance!

Congrats!!! Maybe this will be too late, but like the other poster said...very soon you'll have a brand new baby! Little fingers and toes, baby smells, big sisters that are VERY excited. Everyone always says the last few days are the worst...your tired, excited, anxious...all at the same time, but it will be over soon.

Just remember he/she can come at anytime. (With my 3rd I had NOTHING...my water broke...still nothing for about 40 minutes...then 40 minutes later we had our little one.) Go to hospital right away to be safe.

While you're waiting make sure you have EVERYTHING ready (you probably already do, but double check and it will take up a little time.) :)
Write your girls a note telling them how proud of them you are for being great big sisters, write your hubby a letter telling him what a great dad/husband he is, write your mom and MIL a letter thanking them for all their help and support.

Watch some TV or try to sleep....as you know you won't get much of those in the next few weeks. Enjoy the time with your girls...things will be different around the house soon.

Just remember it's all worth it for your new addition. Congrats again and good luck!!

Are you sure it isn't time to go? If you are feeling overwhelmed, call the doctor and ask if you can be checked again. I thought my contractions were too far apart, but when I went in for my scheduled appointment my doctor said, "you're in labor, go to the hospital and I'll see you later." It went faster and easier for the third child. I was lucky I got there early enough for the epidural!

Keep hydrated. The nurses told me that I was dehydrated and I felt so guilty.

Good luck.

How exciting! But frustrating and uncomfortable. I was in labor for about 5 or 6 days with my second son. I was working at the time and was so miserable that I actually filed to go on disability/maternity leave earlier than I had planned. I felt like I was going to be laboring on and off forever!

Anyway, the day after the disability application I had that baby! It was a quick, easy labor - I figure I got a lot of the work out of the way in all those days. Hope it works that way for you too!

Good Morning,
Have your husband "take one for the team". Start with running a warm bath, lots of candles, soft music (go all out since the Gmas are waiting any way send the girls to their house), relax and then enjoy time with your husband. I also put a heating pad (on low so I wouldn't over heat) on my breast. I worked for all three of my kids!
Best Wishes!

Dear Mom on the Go, for the staying positive. You will have a brand new baby to love, you will be able to see your toes, you will able to tie your own shoes. oh and a biggiee you won't need to pee every 5 minutes lol.
Get a bottle of caster oil. If your body is saying hey lets go this will get it going. I did it with 3 of my kids and they were born within 4 hours of taking it. You mix about 2 tablespoons of it with some rootbeer or orange juice. or if your a really strong stomach then just take it straight. I have never been able to do that i always have to mix it. lol.
