According to my pediatrician, anything with apples in it worsens constipation. Prune juice and pear juice are best. You can buy a can of pears and strain the juice... or buy baby food (prunes and/or pears). My boys are 3.5 and 4.5, and I still give them gerber prunes and pears. They continue to think it's a "treat" similar to eating pudding. :)

The best thing to give her is prune juice or if constipation is severe (and this sounds like it may be) buy a stool softener for babies at any pharmacy.

My doctor said to use White Grape Juice instead of apple and yes dilute it about 1/2 and 1/2. I don't know when you can start using Miralax but we use it every day on my 18 mo old and it has really helped if the problem is cronic.

hi there i have a 2mth old baby girl that suffered from constipation while been changed from formula to formula to tell you the truth as a hispanic we are used to using old home remedies my mom gave her (manzanilla) chamomile you just boil it like tea with her baby water if you buy the tea bags make sure you get the 100% natural or buy it fresh you can either find it at walmart or like a fiesta store but 1ounce in her bottle and just add the rest of her baby water as usual so if you baby drinks 2ounces its 1ounce chamomile and 1ounce water so forth and it works it also helps with she has colic and gas and you can do it at every feeding also my peditrician told me to give her white grape juice 1ounce in her formula but i saw quick results with the chamomile and you can also try (miel karo)the clear one which is corn syrup add 1/2 a teaspoon to her bottle it works wonders good luck

I did that with my first child and am doing it with my second (4.5 weeks old). We've used Apple, Pear and Grape juice. They worked great with the first one, but not so great with the second. A friend of mine suggested Pedialite (off brand works too). It worked within 24 hours. Now we give him 2-6 ozs a day. We've been doing this for about a week now. Sometimes I think they just need the extra fluid that formula just doesn't provide. OH!! When we did juice, we did 1/2 juice and 1/2 water and used the Gerber brand juice.

Hey Shelley, How old is your little girl? My 4 month old son had the same issue. I gave him White grape juice with water 2 oz of water 2 oz of the juice to help him go. Also you can try orune juice with water a very bit because it will make them go if you can get them to drink it. Also if it keeps happening take her to her ped and if shes on a certain formula they may change it like they did for my son. Rice cerels will constipate then as well, My son was on a little rice in his formula for his reflux but is now off of it. Also you can give her a supository if you have to. Also if you put Kayrol corn syrup a table spoon in there milk by morning time they will go easly I do it for my son. Gett he clear kind. Hope all works. good luck.

How old is your baby first of all? If she is older than 2 months you can give her a little pear juice. If she is straining right now, you can try to take a q-tip or the tip of a thermometer and lube it with KY or vaseline and put it in her rear just about a 1/2 inch and that really helps to pass the bowel movement. Also, try pushing her legs up to her chest gently and moving her hips from side to side, that will help her to pass it as well if she is truly constipated. That helped all three of my kids when they were constipated. Good luck!

prume juice is to strong for infant under 6 mths so is apple juice but you can give 1 teaspoon of (only) light karo syrup with 4 ozs of water .if you have to give apple juice only give 1 /2 oz to 4 oz's water but the karo has always worked BUT never give over 4 oz's a day.

I would recommend diluted apple juice for kids. I gave it to my 3 month old and it worked great.

I would use a glycerin suppository and tons of diluted prune juice. Then I would examine what the root cause of her constipation is. If you are breastfeeding her, look at your diet. If she is bottlefed, the formula isn't going well for her.

My daughter spent her first year constipated. We put a bit of prune juice or corn syrup in her bottle and it worked like a charm. Be careful to start slowly to see just how much helps. Both seemed to work, but I would think the prune juice would be healthier, looking back on it.

She is a happy, healthy 34 year old women today, so no side affects.

This may be late but my daughter every so ofter gets constipated. Our last eposide I gave her water to drink...lots. And then we were back and forth on and off the potty walking around. It scared her from her memory this was the 1st time she'd experience this but since she's been born she's always had problems.

I would not give any kind of juice to such a little baby -- too much straight sugar.

You can add a little pear juice to her bottle and it will help. Just a splash will make a difference. From what I understand apple juice can cause constipation. I used pear juice with both of my girls and it has always worked like a charm. Good luck

Ahhh, this happened with all 3 of mine a time or two (maybe more). I tried to "help" it along with a Q tip lubed with vasoline, just a little in the rear, in and out (my pedi called it teasing) and it will help her get it out. Sometimes it took me a few minutes and once the initial hard part came out they would finish a regular BM in the diaper. Pull her legs up to, bend the knees and move them, it will help her bowels move on the inside. Good luck!

We put a drop of Karo (clear) syrup on a bottle nipple (or when breastfeeding - directly on my nipple) and within 3-5 hours - boom - a big BM.

Good luck.

If she is old enough to sit in the exersaucer, even propped up, that always did the trick for my kids. The cloth seat helped.
