Help! I've Got Three Kids, a Household to Run, and ADHD. Any Advice?

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, at the same time that my then 6yo daughter was diagnosed. My theory of why my diagnosis came so late: All five of my siblings are affected to some degree, and my case appeared mild in comparison to some of them, so Mom and Dad weren't concerned. Also, I benefited greatly from the structure provided by living at home, going to school, and eventually, going to work.

It was when I was the SAHM of three children, responsible for providing structure, not only for my own daily activities, but for those of my children, that IT really hit the fan. I'd love to hear from other moms, especially those with ADHD in their lives, about how they cope with the challenge of "getting it all done".

I'm seriously considering finding a new job. I've been at this SAHM gig for over ten years, and I still don't do it particularly well. I read recently that the job of "household manager" may be the one job that a person with ADHD is LEAST suited for. No wonder I'm frustrated!

Anyway, I would love to hear from others in the same situation as myself, or anyone with good resources for support.

Thanks Mamasource moms!

I was diagnosed with having ADD just yesterday. So, I do not have any advice, but as a SAHM with two little boys, I know what you are going through.

My doctor recommended a high protein, low carb diet to help (as per the writings of neuroscientist DR. Amen).

Hang in there.

Hi D.,
There is a tremendous amount of positive research about taking Omega 3 fatty acids on a daily basis for ADHD. I've been to many a health/nutrition seminar where people have shared testimonies about the effectiveness of the proper amount of Omega 3's on their kids who have ADHD. I am at work right now, so don't have access to the specific information on the amounts and suggested products, but when I get home, I can find it for you, if you'd like.
Let me know if you'd like more info on that. I know that the Omega 3's help with soooooo many things! (Personal experience) However, it's extremely important to make sure that the brand you use is a trusted one. I can help with that, too, when I get home.
Looking forward to getting more information for you this evening,
