Help! My 2 Year Old Won't Use the Potty Anymore!!!

How in the world can I get my toddler back on the potty? She has a younger sister (not yet 1) who is, of course, still in diapers. I have been potty training for what seems like forever. I have tried Pull-ups, big girl panties, bribery, even letting her go bottomless to encourage her to use the potty. She knows that baby sister can soil her diapers and get changed without a fuss. She just started refusing to use the potty about 3 weeks ago after doing so well. What do I do?

What can I do next?

Oh L.!

I am having the same problem with my little girl. At first we were doing great! She would tell me when she had to go we would sit and it was a done deal. Now she refuses to use the potty for me! I put her on it and she SCREAMS!! Nothing scary, or bad has ever happened to her on it or what now but she throughs a HUGE fit when I ask her to go. I have tryed all the same things that you have pull-ups, big girl panties, bribery, and letting her be bottomless. There seems to be no hope for her either! I have kinda of adopted the idea that she won't be in diapers forever, but now with another baby on the way I am stressed that she won't want to make the 'change'.

I just want you to know you are not alone on this! I hope to see the responses!

i have a 3 month old and 23 month old, my oldest started potty training about 5 weeks ago and it took a few days and she has done great. we have the occassional accident and i still remind her and ask if it has been a few hours. just remember they need to be ready. if you think she is ready i would do the big girl panties or the cotton big girl ones and just let her have accidents. she will not like the feeling and having to be cleaned up. also talking about the special things big girls can do that babies can't. also try doing something small when she does go (we did 1 mm for pee and 2 for bm) now we only do the mm's if she ask, which is rare. just be patient and try to be as positive as possible.good luck, M. j

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but most 2 year olds aren't mature enough to potty train especially when there's younger siblings

You might just have to give her time...once her sister is old enough...they will both be potty trained...

My daughter was the same way L.. She's 2 turning 3 this June. And when she had just turned 2 we started potty training, and after a month it was actually working for like a week. But then when I started daycare and had little ones in diapers, she completely turned around and said she wanted diapers and started going in her pull-ups again!
It took awhile, but I just had to start taking her to the potty very often and gave her dum-dum lollipops everytime she went pee and she got the hang of it :o) So other than a few accidents she's doing really well and loves the praise I give her when she does go. Hope it helps a little, and if not, sorry :o)

I am told it is totally normal for them to go backwards once in a while. I have a two year old who was doing really well potty training...then I kicked it into high gear, with big girl panties, and now she wants NOTHING to do with the potty after doing well since she was one and a half!!! My Pediatrician told me to just back off for a while....that the last thing you want to do is make the potty a power struggle. I know how you feel though....you just don't want two in diapers! That is why I kicked the whole thing into high gear,,our son is due in 6 weeks :-) I wanted to have my two year old out of diapers by the time he came,,,but it does not look like that will be the case. Best of luck to ya :-)
