Hi,
I have a 3.5 month old baby, who is a little wiggle worm. She wiggles out of her sleep proctor, across teh crib and downward. SHe sleeps through the night, but lately has been crashing into the crib and waking herself up. Any suggesitons of what I can do to keep her from waking up? Any help is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My 4 1/2 month old daughter has been doing the same thing since we started putting her in the crib (and that includes sleeping through the night). Not only does she spin around, kicking the covers off along the way, but she loves to feel the soft bumper against her head. No matter how many times I get up and put her back in the middle, she still ends up spinning around and leaning against the bumper. I know there are some that frown upon bumpers at all, but I'd rather have her feel something soft against her head than the hard rails. Besides, at least her arms and legs can't get stuck with the bumper there. Suffice to say, if she's sleeping and that's what makes her happy, I'd let her go. No harm, no foul. :-)
Good luck and enjoy!

My son is the same age (born Jan 29) and at about 2 months old we took out the back sleeping positioner for the same reason. He migrated all over the place. Plus we were still swaddling him. I gradually transitioned from swaddling to sleeping in a sleep sack or warm pajamas and he stopped migrating. I think he was trying to wiggle around and the sleep positioner and the swaddling blanket prevented him from moving freely in his sleep. Now he doesn't migrate around the crib anymore and he seems to sleep better. I also found the breathable crib bumper at Babies r Us. It's called the BreathableBaby Bumper and it has soft mesh fabric and it is lightly padded, so there is no risk of suffocation.

I think I've seen breathable bumpers somewhere unfortunately I couldn't tell you where but you can google them. My daughter used to slide right out of her incline mattress somethimes. I had bumpers on her crib but I know that they are not really used any more. I checked her to see how she was with them if she could get her head up and everything but I wouldn't necessarily recommend regular bumpers. Check for the breathable ones though I know they exist. Good luck.

I would say to get some sort of "bumper" to put against the rails so she doesn't BANG into the sides and wake herself up.

i don't know what a sleep proctor is, but it sounds like she wants the comfort of being able to "feel" the side of the crib. my first son would do this. some kids like the security of being able to feel something solid. when you put her down for the night, put her in the corner of the crib she usually moves to.

I don't know what a sleep proctor is but perhaps you could try a sleep positioner. But at 3.5 months I think she may be too old for it.

If I were you I would just wait it out. She'll either stop or get used to it. I doubt she can really hurt herself unless there is a padded bumper which she could suffocate on. Good luck.

I'm not sure what a sleep proctor is, I even googled it, and couldn't find anything. I guess it's something to keep baby in one position all night? It sounds like your daughter wants to be able to move herself, and sleep where she wants to sleep. Time to take that thing out of the crib, and let her find her own comfy spot.

My baby (now 19 months) was also SUPER wiggly when she was a baby. I still go in once a night to make sure she's at least under the covers...whichever way she is facing. (When she learned to roll over and sit up, she would wake up in the night, immediately sit up...and fall asleep face down, still sitting! She was folded up like a taco.) Eventually, she figured out how to put herself back to sleep...but putting her back in the middle of the crib seemed to help. I also put her lovey next to her head so if she ran into the crib (which she did every night) it wouldn't bonk quite so hard!

My 4 month old daughter does the same thing. At night we place her closer to the right side of the crib because she moves left. I also just bought a Breathable Baby Bumper at Babies R' Us. It's a mesh fabric so she can still breath and now her leg & arm doesn't stick out of the crib which would wake her up also. It's also available online. Maybe this will help!

HI A.,
A bumper would stop her from crashing into the crib. I'm not an expert and I'm sure that there are mamas who will disagree, but if your daughter can wiggle out of whatever she's in and then across the crib, she probably wouldn't suffocate with a bumper. My son always had a bumper on his crib, but by the time he could roll over to it he was able to lift and turn his head from side to side. Sleeping through the night at 3 1/2 months? You go A.! :o)
