Help... My Complexion Looks Awful!

So, as of lately, my complexion is looking really bad. By skin is very blotchy and I have a bunch of small acne (no whiteheads and no big pimples) on my cheeks and chin. I thought it was just from hormones around period time but It doesn't seem to be the case and it seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure what I can do to clear it up so I wanted to see what some of you ladies can suggest. My skin is also very dry, so I need something that will moisturize it a bit. I would love something that I can make myself but if anyone can recommend a wash or something, I would love to hear it (something inexpensive). Currently, I use just plain old Dove soap on it. I have used that for years, so maybe it's time for something else.

What can I do next?

If it is new recently you may want to try a basic antibiotic like Tetracycline or Doxycycline. I have used it for a week or two when this happens. The doctor said that sometimes a bacteria will get a hold and need a little extra help to stop.

I also got a great foundation from Clinique that hides red spots and my sister got one that hides brown spots so you have a couple of these options as well. Good luck!

OH, and I'm going to try the banana/avacado/honey mask.

Are you under additional stress? That usually plays havoc on my skin. Also, do you drink a lot of caffeine? That makes me break out something awful.

I used to use an oil free moisturizer; it was very light on my skin but still moisturized. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it but when you're at the store pay attention to labels - look for one specifically that won't clog pores.

Sorry I couldn't be more help:(

Good luck!!!

When I read this, the first things that came to mind were eczema and rosacea. Both conditions look like rashes similar to what you have described and both conditions are treatable. My daughter and I both have eczema and we control it very well with creams. My suggestion to you would be to see a doctor, specifically a dermatologist, to have your skin evaluated to determine what is actually going on. Until then, keep your face clean using a facial cleanser and use a moisturizer such as Cetaphil or Eucerin every day.

Yikes, Dove soap? No wonder.

Use a facial wash, not the medicated kind. Neutrogena's pretty good, but there are many others you can get at the grocery store.

My routine includes a creme cleanser first, (oil binds to oil, and I use Seaware from a health food store), followed by a liquid facial soap, such as Neutrogena.

Using both kinds gets the skin cleaner. Don't over scrub.

But get off the Dove. Use that for your body.

I would never put bar soap on my face. Try Cetaphil(found at any store) or the store version of it. Also try a scrub (one that specifically says it gentle) 2 times a week. As for moisturizing it Eucerin makes a great facial moisturizer that has an spf of 30. It wouldn't hurt to get some masks either-or make your own. You can make your own scrub by combining oatmeal, plain yogurt and honey together.

I found this one on Pinterest, along with several others...

1/2 avacado, 1/2 banana, and 1tsp honey. Mash it all together until it's smooth, and spread on your face for 10-15 minutes, and rinse with warm water. :)

This link has several other masks, and some scrubs you can make at home, with very common ingredients. :)

OK - this may seem a bit cookey to you but its great! Honey. Wash your face with honey. Just plain honey. It also has the benefit of being moisturizing. Here's where I first read about it. She's got a lot of great ideas. Though admittedly some are still a bit too cooky for me to try :)

OK. We all go through periods when our skin looks better or worse.
There are many factors: stress, sleep (or lack of), mood, climate etc...

My skin is sensitive to the environment and all of the above factors :) -- and can be both dry and oily....so i have found the following is of help:
1. cetaphil or any mild non fragrance cleanser each day. good for oil or dry skin.

2. lite non fragrance toner with no alchohol. (ROC, Clinique for Sensitive Skin...)

3. Neutragena plain moisturizer for sensitive skin. no fragrance or retinol or any fancy stuff -- for dry areas.

4. prescription antibiotic cream for spots -- only on spots

5. SUNBLOCK!

Wash your face with something mild like Cetaphil. Never use soap on the face or a cleanser that foams (you say you have dry skin; foamy cleanser dries your skin even more). Do use honey once or twice a week. Apply it on a damp skin and let it stay on for about 10 minutes. Honey moisturizes your skink and it is also a disinfectant. Moisturize with something for sensitive skin..Eucerin, or something from Whole Foods (they have many creams at a reasonable price). If you see it doesn't improve, do see a dermatologist.
