I am hoping to have my home daycare up and running by summer time, but haven't been able to come up with a name. Any ideas? I haven't completely decided what age range of children we will provide for... So something that is inviting to all ages (infant to 10) and fun!!! Thanks for all your input!!! =)

What can I do next?

You could also use the name of your street and add land or school to the end.

Simple use your name, I have ran my daycare now for almost 14 years, my last name Is Louis, so we are the Louis Family Daycare, or you if you don;t want to use your last name call it M.'s Daycare, I think that's cute. A friend of mine last name is Durbin, so her daycare is the Durbin family daycare, my friend Sonia, he daycare care is called Sonia's Daycare. It;s really simple. I don't know what area you live in, but here in my area there is already a Kids Korner, there's also a Rainbow Daycare and a kids unlimited which are not home daycare's and are a preschool/daycare, your home daycare will have a child limit. Before you use a name that is not your own check to make sure that you are duplicating someone elses business. J.

I like M. Land too!! Took me a minute to get the CandyLand reference but you could have fun board game themed cards and whatnot. The kids would love it and parents love nostalgic references. You could even gear a different board game to each age group, i.e. hi ho cherry-o for the little ones, CandyLand for the mid-age, and monopoly for the older kids, or whatever. Cute!! Just be careful of copywrite issues but you could design your own version without taking their exact looks. People would still get it for sure!

I agree to avoid age defining words like "Babycare" "Infanthouse", etc.
Unless you are doing a structured preschool program..and again that age only, avoid that word, or the "tiny toddlers" sorts of things.

Many of us do opt to use our name in the title. I am a "Playschool". My name came from a goofy source as I wanted it to be different than all the kiddie names I was seeing locally advertised (Busy Bees, Kiddie Kastle, Cozy Corner, Cuddle Bugs, etc).

I also went to Vistaprint.com and created a simple logo (under $20)...and now have the various jpegs of it to use for my policy book, various websites I use to advertise...and have ordered some products thru the Vistaprint site like business cards, return labels, postcards (to send as thank yous to people who have interviewed), for large sticker type labels for the folders I put interview materials into, etc...pretty inexpensive but puts my name in front of them and looks much more professional and organized (IMO).

Have fun!

Little Frogs as the frog is an animal of transformation. They bury themselves in the ground 8 feet down to survive winter. In spring they work themselves back up to the surface again.

How about the name of your street....? If for example you live on sunflower lane. How about Sunflower daycare? Only if your street names sounds good right?

If your're name is M. I really like the suggestion below M. Land. That's catchy and cute!

I think it's a good idea to decide what kind of daycare you want to be. I have a friend who had (what I considered) a very physically active daycare and the name was "Kick's". My daycare is called "Sprouts".

Parents will be sort of subconsciously attracted to your daycare by the name... and also how you advertise. I am a home daycare and we do lots of activities and I get calls all the time from people thinking that I am a preschool or center.

I think MandyLand is cute and playful!

Congrats and good luck on starting your own business. You must be so excited!

A lot of people obviously like Mandyland, but to be devil's advocate...I don't like cutesy names. I'm trusting you with my child because I have to go to work. I want you to take caring for her as seriously as I do. I want to know that you're going to pick her up when she's crying, not let her sit in a wet diaper, verify you follow state laws, offer nutritious food and generally lesson my guilt for not being there so I don't worry I'm going to end up on the Nancy Grace show.

The name of the center should appeal to me, the decision maker, not the child. Once you get me in the door to interview you, you can show me how much fun my kid is going to have. But first I have to TRUST you.

I'm sure I sound like a big ol' fuddy duddy, but when I chose a daycare I called down to the capital, double-checked there weren't any registered complaints, I asked about their open door policy (I liked to go so her at lunch time when she was an infant) and chose one with lots of light and a window in every room (obviously can't do that if you're working out of your home). I also only looked at daycares that were near my work - so be sure to canvas where you live and maybe offer a grand opening discount to businesses located within 10 miles of your home. Create a flier and take them to the receptionist (always pays to court the receptionist - s/he's the gatekeeper). Another tip: don't put coupon on it. Coupon = trash to people. Use the term Gift Card, which people magically turn to money in their head.

I would also suggest that you make your mission very clear for older pre-school aged children, when parents hope that you will get them going on their ABC's and counting. I finally pulled my daughter out of her daycare after 4 years because their mission was about playing and she was ready to start learning. But I wasn't upset because they told me up front what thier beliefs are and were very transparent with their policies. I knew what to expect and when it no longer fit my needs we all hugged and moved on.

With that being said - you actually asked about a Name of a daycare not my diatribe as a consumer. A fun way to think up themes or names is word association. Start with the hook and then add the business end when you know (i.e. Daycare, Pre-school, Play-School, Child Care Services, etc.). So for this exercise, start with one word and then just keep listing until you can't think anymore. Don't worry about how dumb or unrelated it sounds, just keep going with whatever comes into your head because it may lead in a whole new direction that you like. For my example I'll start with the word: SUN

Sun Rays
Sunrise
Early Start
Building Blocks
Connections
Helping Hand
Neighborhood Care
Extended Family
Safe Haven
Harbor
Smooth Sailing

You get the point...

Either way - even if YOU prefer "cutsey", word association can work when deciding what direction you want to go. I wish you luck!
